Got the same email, read the fine print and frankly it's not such a great deal compared to other cards that offer 1% to 5% back on purchases. I personally don't open and close cards often so this would just be another card I don't really need. My dealer will only take 3K on a new purchase and it's not like you can put 3K on this card and then 3K on another if you use this card etc.

So this card is below average in terms of returns on purchases as I see it?

I see it now, "Summary of credit terms" wasn't hyperlinked on my browser, just checked my phone it takes me right to the terms. The perks are not that attractive (%17+apr), there are better cards out there unless you are a hard core jeep fan and want that jeep logo in your wallet.

Re: Jeep credit card

It's reasonably accurate to say that most "affinity" cards are not necessarily favorable to have in your wallet and that there are better deals for cards, including various points or cash back provisions, depending on the individual's needs and typical purchasing patterns with the card. Airlines, hotels, vehicle manufacturers, membership groups, etc., all push their cards because they make good money on them, not because then necessarily will benefit "you". Most have higher interest rates which is not good for folks who need to carry a balance, many have annual fees after the first year (and sometimes even in the first year) and their "benefits" often are somewhat locked into a particular thing, rather than beneficial to you if your situation changes. I personally have always avoided them and selected cards based on broader benefit and appeal.

It depends on whether your question regarding "good" applies to a card holder or to Chrysler Capital who just got your loan proceeds.

IIRC the card comes thru firstnational, as thats where the link to the semi-fine print goes.

There is one item I am not sure about: •A maximum of $3,000 toward your down payment, up to your credit limit, when you finance with Chrysler Capital

Does this mean I can use $3000 worth of points toward my downpayment or does this mean I can use the card for the downpayment? I believe they mean you can use your card for a downpayment (why would anyone do that?) but maybe I am missing something. Here are more details on the perks:

THE POINTS.

Plus, you’ll earn Maximum Rewards for every qualifying dollar spent, and you can redeem points toward hundreds of rewards.

•3 POINTS per $1 spent on qualifying purchases made at FCA US dealerships (including parts, accessories, maintenance, merchandise, etc.)1

•2 POINTS per $1 spent on qualifying travel purchases1

•1 POINT per $1 spent on purchases everywhere else1

•Plus, you have 7 years from when points are awarded to use them before they expire

THE REWARDS.

You can redeem these Maximum Rewards points for hundreds of reward options, like FCA US vehicles, accessories, parts and service, or merchandise, dining, travel, charity and more. Redemptions start at just 2,500 points.

I received the offer too. I understand that you can use up to $3k for your down payment. Reason, imo, to earn the points.
It would behoove the card holder pay that off though.

I used to carry balances on cards when I was a lot poorer of a guy working in TV. Now, I've been in it long enough that I can afford to buy things and have the money for them (aside from things like a house or a car, of course). I only use the card for the cash back bonuses or to avoid using the debit card when I'm worried about skimming or the reputation of a retail with getting hacked.

I like seeing that zero balance following each billing cycle.

The bonus is, it's great to walk into the bank for a car or other type of loan and have them say, "no problem - how much do you need?"
