Hello All,

If things go as planned I'll be picking up my JGC on May 15th from the dealer. In the past I have bought 2-3 year old vehicles from individual buyers, this will be my first brand spanking new one! The salesman I've been working with is a personal friend so I'm not worried about him trying to screw me around. I guess my question is when I go to pick up the Jeep what should I look for? Dents/damage, bad paint, scuff marks, etc and if there is something I'm not happy with how hard should I push the issue? Just looking for some advice from people that've been through the experience before.

Thanks in advance! This forum has been awesome and filled with a ton of info while waiting on the Jeep.

Since you have purchased used cars, you are half way there. Look with the same critical eye. The difference when buying new,you expect it to be fixed. Some dealers will suggest they will fix minor things at your first service ... no, no, no. Tell them to fix it before you sign anything. They will have more of an incentive to get it done.

Don't let your friendship play a part.

If you go for extended warranty (many folks do on these) you should compare the price he offers to Zeigler (online). Then you'll know how good a friend he/she is ;)

I'll share my experience on the 2012 Ford Focus I picked up from the dealer.

Things wrong upon delivery:
-Coffee stains and liquid in cupholder;
-Cigarette ashes on headliner near driver window/door
-Scuff marks on passenger mirror;
-Car exterior was not cleaned, it still had some of the protective travel film;
-Incorrect rims (16" instead of 17");
-Wrong colour (Oxford White instead of Platinum White Tri-Coat);
-And the best for last, wrong trim level (SE instead of SEL).

It took them a month to replace the car with the correct one as I wanted it, and another 6 months before I had the correct rims installed.

Needless to say I have not returned to that dealership for any of the required service.

Check out all of the panel gaps on the exterior, that should clue you in to misaligned panels. Inspect the paint, even the roof. Inspect the wheels (look for dirt trapped in the clearcoat) Make sure the fuel door sits flush.

Check the alignment of interior panels. Confirm there are no gaps between the headliner and trim. Confirm the front seats and center console are aligned properly (are they equally spaced from the center console? Does one make contact with the center console?)

Take it for a test drive. Accelerate then apply the breaks while driving on a level surface. While doing this, pay close attention to the feel of the steering. Do you feel any rattle? If so, it may have a bad intermediate shaft.
