Angry Jeep GC recall P14

So much for good Jeep service, tried to schedule to have the recall done on my 2013 GC Overland and this is what I got from the service dept:

"Currently we only receive one recall part per week from Chrysler. I have added you to the wait list. Hopefully in the very near future parts will become more readily available and our availability will increase. Right now we have @ 20 people on the waiting list".

The recall deals with the brake booster.

I received the recall notice 3 weeks ago and deceided to wait until now just in case they didn't have the parts yet...........but one part a weeks.....that is crazy.

Do we have another GM waiting to happen?

No, Jeep actually did a recall.

While the parts delay sucks, my read of the recall notice didn't suggest there was any immediate peril.

YMMV.

Re: Jeep GC recall P14

Before an actual problem can exist, there has to be enough corrosion for water to enter the brake booster, AND the water has to freeze.

This has been covered in a few threads.

If they waited for a vendor to produce enough parts before making the recall, many would be crying that they should have been told sooner. Damned if they do, damned if the don't.

The Genie who snaps their fingers and instantly produces a million parts is on an extended vacation, so Jeep needs to depend on mere mortals.

Re: Jeep GC recall P14

My parts dept. said the parts are 6 months out. That will be December. In the Northeast there is a good chance of freezing temps. by then. I called 2 days after the notice.

Makes sense. By that time a few people will have already crashed because of it and then they'll really have a lit fire under their asses.

I completely understand the supply/demand aspect of it and the unknown issue that they have to start pumping out parts for, but that is just ridiculous.

It hasn't rained here in 118 days. I'm not worried.

Amazing.
A recall for something that could be prevented by the simple tactic of washing the vehicle carefully after winter driving.

I hate to even have the recall done, given the amount of futzing around in small places required to put the rubber cover around the booster... more odds of messing something up than doing something really useful. I will have it done due to CarFax type issues, but possibly only nearer a sale time.

Granted I did have the missus and her small hands paint the entire mating area of the booster drum with rustoleum undercoating... and do wash it after every winter drive.

A car wash is your friend, clean the booster area carefully.

Won't argue against that.

On the other hand, I washed my Jeep mid-November 2013, at which time I gave it a thorough waxing for winter. My Jeep didn't get washed again until this past Memorial Day weekend... roughly 6 months. I'm in WI and needless to say they don't spare the road salt or calcium chloride anti-freeze road spray in winter.

Just for the heck of it I went out just now and looked at my brake booster with a flashlight. No corrosion whatsoever.

With that said, I don't think this is anything for anyone to panic over regardless of how long it takes for parts to start showing up.

Re: Jeep GC recall P14

See this existing fun thread - Part Availability for the Brake Booster Recall

At least your dealers story about one per week is the same as the OP in this other thread.

Open your hood. The black brake booster is tucked up against the firewall and under the cowl overhang on the driver's side, adjacent to the hood hinge and fender. The brake fluid resevoir / master cylinder is attached to the front of the booster.
