Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 in the snow

Ok I bought this 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 3.0L Ecodiesel. It's snowing like crazy out, I select snow on the traction selector and pull out into traffic and it's moving 20-30 mph top speed and there is no way to see far enough ahead with the blowing and drifting snow to pass 8 cars in a row. This is one of the nicest handling vehicles on snow I've ever driven. I feel like I should be in a Geo Metro following cars at 25 mph on the open highway. This could be a very nice vehicle to drive in the winter, but since I have to follow people that drive with bad tires and or rear wheel drive cars during winter months makes me wonder if I needed to invested in this much of a vehicle here. It really handles nice on the snow covered roads. Sorry I'm Just venting!

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 in the snow

Snow mode + dedicated winter tires = unstoppable. Unfortunately we have to deal with non-Jeep driving users who drive like my 85yo grandma

Sounds like your one of those guys that thinks cuz he has 4wd/awd that you own the road and are invincible. Being a professional driver I see imbeciles everyday that think like you. I always hope to see them down the road rolled over or in a snowbank so I can flip a finger at them on the way by. Sounds like this vehicle is to much for you and maybe you should have invested in something more your speed like a Smart car before you kill somebody.

But the time WILL come when on a back road or even a main road there is a hill or something causing EVERYONE ELSE to stop, give up, turnaround etc, and YOU will BLOW BY them in the Jeep; that is what it is all about!! I can still see the "looks" on 2 homeowners in their driveways last year when I blew thru their unplowed development of 14 -18 inches of snow! As they say, "priceless"! Dave

It could possibly be true what he said. I'm all for driving based on conditions but so many idiots drive way to slow because they don't prepare their car for winter travel. You don't need to go 90mph everywhere but stay home if you can't drive in the snow.

When I said 25 mph, I meant 25 mph! It was almost like a fast run. The final miles I drove home after the scared to death pokes turned off, I pushed the pedal down to about 45 or maybe 50 tops. I think I was still in 7th gear on the selector. Settle down, no race car driver here. I just wanted to get home from work before the sun came up.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 in the snow

I've had what is normally a half hour commute take over 3 hours on a few occasions. Sometimes you just gotta go with what the weather allows... especially when blazing your own trail.

LOL...

I think you read way more into his thread than you should have and why would you wish to see someone upside down in a ditch? I have seen bad drivers in all sorts of vehicles, not just 4x4's but they can be included too. Good will towards everyone is better! Dave

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 in the snow (and wipers)

Sorry about the thread hijack...

The jeep has been pretty fun up here in Boston. Had to take the jeep out in a good pile of snow last night and this morning before it stopped and streets were plowed. The jeep is snow mode plus the weight of the 5.7 has been absolutely great. Even with the stock tires, relatively little slippage and I felt I had pretty good traction for acceleration. In terms of driving and handling, the car is great. As someone that parks outside, it's been great to be able to drive through an ~2ft snow drift without having to dig the car out either...

Any thoughts on the stock wipers? I found them to be pretty rough and ice way too easy.... Seems like the wipers sit way too low on the windshield to get proper heat and stay thawed if they aren't on high speed. To keep them warm enough means I need to take it off 'auto' and have it way to high to keep the front window warm and cook me in the process.

I picked up some Bosch wipers but haven't replaced them yet. Will probably do today/tomorrow before the next round of snow shows up Thursday. Anybody experience the same thing?

And it's always good for some smiles when they try to stop

If your driving dangerously and end up in a ditch your no longer on the road endangering others.
