Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Moose Test -- Full Story

Anyone else notice that the most vociferous posters are from Oz???? Sydney to be precise... Don't you lot have something better to do than spamming this board with 'Roo (er Moose) avoidance panic! Sheesh if it was really a serious problem wouldn't the NTSB be all over it? After all they opened up a case over 1 (count it one) blown power steering hose starting a fire.....
P.S. anyone know where the Holden plant is? aren't they now exporting to the US again... And IMHO the Swedes are just trying to pump up sales for the home teams....
Talk about a tempest in a tea pot!

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Moose Test -- Full Story

Yeah Chuck, we love to spam this board with trivial matters such as safety.
We are only trying to bring to attention what I believe is a very serious matter, but it appears that Jeep and several less conserned forum members do not share my views on safety.

The Holden plant is in Elizabeth, South Australia. I did a full tour of the factory about 5 years ago and saw them making the first GTO's that were exported to the USA. They are not well known for their build quality or class leading features. There mantra is "there is no replacement for cubic displacement".

Other two cars seems to be driven less aggressively because their ESPs are working ... i.e., your two questions are probably the answer to each other ...

Must be because the water supply is spiked with "common sense", seems it is not the case in Northern Va

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Moose Test -- Full Story

My work here is done! LOL

FWIW I'm still wondering why this issue is being pushed from Oz? In case you haven't noticed we have more than our share of anal-retentive types up here in the states too... As far as it being a safety issue I'm just wondering why it is such a non-starter here????? Remember Ralph Nader and Co. are/were Yanks!

On the Holden thing, I believe they have been resurrected from the dead up here as Police Persuit Vehicles....

I think the test really needs to be performed on US-spec vehicles to see if the handling issue might be related to the export-spec tires (Continentals).

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Moose Test -- Full Story

I did the Moose Test today in my 2012 Overland with Air Suspension with 20inch wheels and stock Goodyear Fortera HLs at 86 mph in front of a Semi to my right and around a car in the left lane. I was in sport mode with no passengers but that is twice the speed of the Moose Test and the Jeep held firm.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Moose Test -- Full Story

Did you have 4 passengers and a boot load of sand bags ?
Otherwise it was not the same test.
Glad to hear you avoided the problem and did not roll.

Mongoose9400 is an unknown quantity at this point
A member on the red site is being asked if they could use his SRT for the test since he has the only one in Sweden. He's asking our opinions, it's split down the middle, but I'm hoping they can work something out and they test it. Granted I don't care what the test shows, but since I have an SRT I think it'd be cool to see.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Moose Test -- Full Story

There wasn't a problem, I was just passing the guy in the left lane that was going to slow; I just had to slip in front of the semi and avoid the car's rear bumper in the left lane; not really THAT close, or I wouldn't have done it. Now that I think about it's not a fair comparison at all since the guy was probably going at least 60 mph and I don't know the distance I took to get around him. I thought about the Moose Test when I did it though; that's the only reason I posted about it here.
