Jeep Lets Get It Right

I hope other owners are upset as I am. Look at spare tire and see it is 18" spare vs 20" wheels and tires. I have a Overland Built 12/10. Paid $305 for upgrade radio that is same radio I had in a 2006 on up vehicals. I would rather have new 430n. Brochures read 730N Std. So how is this spare going to help me when I am out in the woods 4X4. I thought I bought a Jeep, not some what do we put in this SUV to ship it and sell it.

Thes, you're not the first to be concerned about the head unit upcharge or slight spare. That said, these receivers are expensive as hell and overall the spare is more than fine as just that, a spare to get you home.

Most trail hardcores might add a full size spare though they might have to stick to stock size rubber to keep it in rear stow.

I'd be pissed if the WK2's weren't such a screaming price value.

Re: Jeep Lets Get It Right

Moosehead you wrote add a full size spare. Well I thought that last I looked full meant full size as listed. Yes exspensive that is why I bought a Overland with std 730N not $305. for a older version radio.

Re: Jeep Lets Get It Right

I know your car came with the 20" wheels but who cares its a damn spare. I mean its not a doughnut spare that comes in most cars right? It is technically a full size spare just not the same 20" wheel as the rest of the car.
Secondly your wrong about the radio because they are certainly not similar to the older 2005-2007 REC navs, not even close to the same. The Mygig started in 2008 and yes its similar to the 08's, but I think they are good units.

Re: Jeep Lets Get It Right

I quess your missing my point. I would like to know if full size does not mean full size. (Yogie Berra) 730n upcharge for old radio vs 430N no upcharge. Go ahead and drive some other 2011 vehicals and then tell me how great this radio is. This is not a premium for what is out in the marketplace. My point is I paid $305 for something that was suppose to be std. My point is the 430N has newer functions that the 730N does not. You can get all devensive about these two items, I am trying to point out it is not right to list full spare tire if not the same as what you are driving on, and upcharge for a listed std item. I luv my Jeep as much as the next guy. Be honest with your self this radio thing is a bad deal for such a nice ride.

Re: Jeep Lets Get It Right

that 18" spare is probably the same rolling diamter as the 20's.....but yeah I agree...it should be a 20" spare IMO

Re: Jeep Lets Get It Right

The spare is a full size spare, it's fully inflated and has the same rolling diameter. I don't understand the issue? Were you expecting another 20" aluminum rim? I'm not aware of any manufacturer doing that, care to enlighten us?

As for the radio, the MSRP was reduced $305 from the initial price when they went back to the 430N then made the 730N optional. The features of the 730N were plainly presented before you checked the upgrade box.

Didn't you do any research? Did you actually buy a vehicle that didn't have what you wanted and are just now realizing it? Nobody put a gun to your head and made you write the check, you could have simply walked out of the dealership.

Re: Jeep Lets Get It Right

The spares in my 2003 RR and my 2006 RR were the same wheels and tires. Granted, they were $80K and $100K+ vehicles respectively. I am just happy it isn't a doughnut.

No issue here with the radio, just bummed I paid extra for the 730N RER when, in the same model year, the 730N RHR came out. But I needed the car in November and the RHR wasn't available then. So, that's that.

Re: Jeep Lets Get It Right

I have always had the same wheel and tire package for a spare in all my Audis over the past 12 years. It is nice if you ever damage wheel but not a big deal if you just need t get home after a flat. It also allows you to do a 5 tire rotation.

Re: Jeep Lets Get It Right

MJW930 As far as your smart _ss remarks. #1 There are plenty of manufactures who match the wheel package with a spare that is same wheel and tire. Go shopping or look at litatures. #2 I did plenty of reseach on radio. Again show me were my price was reduced from MSRP If you look at the research it shows 730N Std. Ive had 12 new cars from 2008 to real time with RER old school radio period. Lot better on the market, get real there is. Some viewers seeing what I was trying to point out, not being a negative on forum but presenting facts. Again I did not order my Overland but had a dealer locate it. Ive added all skid plates frt tow hooks and a lot of other accs because I did my research and wanted the 20" with full spare tire. No a gun was not put to my head, but I think Jeep Co could do a better job @ informing what is really on your Jeep.

Re: Jeep Lets Get It Right

My previous three XJs all came with full size spare which was what you'd expect: the identical tire and aluminum wheel as the other four tires.

Sad to say, but we now live in a different era, where manufacturers are squeezing every dime.

I'll never forgive Daimler for the big decrease in quality between my 1991 and 2000 models.

Re: Jeep Lets Get It Right

I have a 430n so I'm not upset there. And until you mentioned it, I had no idea I had been shorted on the spare. I've been driving for nearly 35 years and I think I've had one flat. It was in a Ford Expedition, it was raining, and I was in a suit. In that model, the spare was stowed underneath the vehicle and required a tedious and messy process to extricate it. After changing the tire, I forgot to crank up the flange thing that held the spare tight to the underbody and it made a huge racket all the way home.

My point in sharing this is that an individual's level of umbrage over this correlates to personal experience. Based on my experience, I don't even expect to ever use the spare (knock wood). And if I do, I'll be damn glad that I can get to it under cover of the lift gate, regardless of whether it's a donut, an 18", or a 20". Your personal experience is apparently different than mine, so I can understand your irritation, but I don't share it--at least with regard to the spare.
