That's what happens when you're bored of the same old routine. Besides, why would they include color choices for the forum if they didn't want them to be used?

Give the V6 a run and try the sport mode. I was impressed by how well it drives with the 8-speed. This is very subjective decision so give the all a try...

Also, the rear tailgates are sometimes a little to far over to one side, so check that out as well.

Since you are actually towing something, might as well go with the v8. As of late, my dad Hemi gets roughly 3-4 mpg worse than what I get in the v6.

Lastly, get the air ride suspension. You're retired so I'm guessing you're over 55 and getting these SUVs to drop about an inch is huge when my mom gets into dads overland. She's over 60 and it just makes it that much easier to get in.
Thanks, Chris.

PROBLEMS: I have been reading about some of the problems with the Uconnect and Nav as well as a few various minor problems as you mentioned. Hopefully they're on it ASAP. Maybe those particular items were assembled by the workers caught drinking and smoking dope in the UAW parking lot by the news crew.

HEMI: You're right, perhaps the Hemi would make me feel more comfortable (tow/passing/etc) despite the loss in MPG. Besides, I will not be putting a lot of annual miles on it.

AIR RIDE SUSPENSION: Actually I'm only 58 and my still-working spouse is 56, so ingress/egress not a problem (yet). However, when you get to my age the air ride as well as any additional comfort is still a plus.

If you're looking to be 100% confident that the truck you purchase will be up tot he task, I'd get a leftover '13. It's still a great truck, you could get an amazing deal on it, and you've got the Hemi which has proven itself, and the 5/6speed auto that has been proven over the decades. You get simpler and IMO better looking interior, but you do lose the bigass touchscreen.
Dammit, FAUEE, now I've been looking at 2013's for the past 3 hours!

So far, the 2014 doesn't have anything I necessarily need or want that the 2013's don't have. 8-speed/paddle shifters? Only 1 MPG better on the Hemi, which I pretty much have decided on? Not that concerned. Looks? 2013 looks good to me. More later...

peckmv & dcar335i:
Thanks for your input. I have now decided on the Hemi V8. "There is no replacement for displacement" is something I have always lived by after 42 years of owning Mustangs anyway. While the GC won't be for racing around town, I am used to the power for towing, passing, and just getting it on when I really need to (i.e. entering freeways where flow of traffic is 70-75 mph, common in So Cal).

Re: Jeepless! Need expert advice on purchase of a 2014 GC 4X4 for specific use.

So, I have a new question. 2014 OR 2013?
.
Needs List: Hemi V8, 4X4 Quadra-Trac (or Drive) II and the ability to tow a 5K lb boat short distances easily. Also on the needs list now (thanks to the spouse) is leather seating, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, trailer tow group, remote start, and ventilated front seats which puts me into the Overland territory.
Donít Care List: Uconnect, navigation, 8-speed trans, paddle shifters, LED lamps, chrome tow hooks, and footwell lighting. Hey, I drove for 10 years with crank windows until I bought my first new car, a 1980 280ZX.

A dealer in my area has the below prices for two of his in-stock 2013 Overland Hemi 4X4ís. Taking the above rambling statements into consideration, do you think these are good deals so far or should I actually wait a while on the possibility of a similar good deal on a 2014 since Iím not in a hurry to purchase one.

Those dealer discounts usually include incentives. You should be able to get the first one for about $41,500 after $2500 incentives and going 1/2 of holdback below invoice. That's a good deal. Any better is a great deal.

My first instinct has always been with the Overland Hemi. Since I don't care about the additions to the 2014 one way or the other, my next question is whether to get a 2013 with all the so-called "deals" going on or not. Depreciation does not matter since I'll hopefully be keeping it for about eight years or so.

Re: Jeepless! Need expert advice on purchase of a 2014 GC 4X4 for specific use.

If the new things from the 2014 don't appeal to you, I'd go drive the 2013 and see how you like it. The second one sounds like a good deal, 4x4 should get you QL, and the V8 and 4x4 combo should get you the tow prep package.

FWIW, the 14s are going to be a longer model year, with limited changes for '15. The MSRP and invoice on these vehicles has also gone up for the '14s, so it's not like you're going to get the '14 for the same price as those '13s.

I'd go test drive them, see if you like them, then try to beat them up on price a little more.

Thanks, FAUEE. These prices are posted on the dealer's website and I have not talked to them yet. It just so happens this dealer also offers special discounting to active/retired members of my former employer (unrelated to Affiliate Prog), but don't know if that would apply to these 2013's already discounted so low. It won't hurt to ask.

My credit union is offering 60 mo auto loans @ .99% and 72 mo loans @ 1.99%. That could change down the road with this unpredictable economy.

Naturally, my wife wants the 1st one listed because she likes the True Blue color best. The second on is in the Steel Metallic.

Steel Metallic is a GORGEOUS color. It's one of the few colors that can make me jealous that I got Black. The Green Pearl color is the other one that does that.

60 months @ 1% is crazy low. Literally, lower than inflation.
