VW interior....LOL. Does anyone else think this looks like a 1990s interior? Barf! Fake looking wood...looks plastic. the dash is horribly 90s looking.
I'm a fan of the overall design of the new interior for the Grand Cherokee. But not all 2014 JGC interiors are finished out as well as the photo you link of the new Overland interior.
I spent almost an hour with the JGC Limited (Billet Silver Metallic, Lux II package) that has been on display at the Detroit Auto show this past week. Nice interior. Great electronics and media system!!! But the interior finish on this early 2014 Limited is a step or two down from the Overland (and from other other competitors in the $50k diesel class, I think). Lots of plastic in the dash, doors and cargo area of the Limited...and the plastic dash does not even have the nice subtle, textured finish that I have in the dash of my daughter's 2010 Prius (at about half the price). The wood in the Limited I saw in Detroit is bland. And what is with that big plastic panel in the seat backs of the new JGC? That seat back reminds me, unfortunately, of a nice seat on a bus, and I wonder if the plastic color and finish of the seat backs will age well with the perimeter leather trim. Finally: the paddle shifters on the Limited at the Detroit show were a cheap-looking beige plastic---I hope that this was just a rushed "beta release" version of the Limited for the show floor---that stood out on the dark colored steering wheel (which has no wood).
Honestly, I like the new JGC interior and I think I can live with some of the flaws of the Limited/LuxII. But the Touareg, if you get a good price, is a worthy competitor to the CRD...and I am still not 100% convinced that Chrysler will support the diesels as well as VW.
