Tire Silo. The wheels/tires are pre-sequenced prior to installation on The LineŽ.

The very expensive tool used to tighten lugnuts! Made by Atlas Copco, to Chrysler specifications, contains 5, equally spaced nutrunners all operated by their own controllers. The line will stop if torque is inadequate OR if the tool goes too far down the workstation!

Rearview mirror kit and installation station. Like the engine kits, these are also sequenced in a pick cell.


Door re-installation. The doors are taken off on A2 after "Sunroof Deck" for easier assembly and assembled on their own line, then re-installed right here, all completed and 99% of the time, correctly built. Occasionally there's a Durango power window switch installed in a Jeep ... It WORKS fine, just a mismatching backlighting color.

To the left, line "A2", right before the doors are taken off. What happens right here, your key, which is randomly taken out of a bin, is scanned (with the code) and attached to your VIN. So if anyone was wondering how that works... that is where it happens. Very very early. There's also some soundproofing installed here. And obviously a wiring harness. The first one so far. Wiring Harness HELL is a few feet forward. LAST place anyone in the plant wants to work but ... well... heh. (I've gotten lucky enough to never have to work there...)

To the left, yet another pick cell for Trim Shop, and just forward of that, the beginning of Door Line.

It would have looked more fitting covered in mud....however I love that color and wish it was an option. I have never really been one for subtle.

Thank you, the photos are interesting, and the annotation is quite helpful. I toured the Chevrolet factory in St. Louis as a Cub Scout (1969) or so, and the GM full sized car factory in Wentzville, MO in about 1986. A factory tour for owners would be an excellent idea.

One thing I wanted to add, since I can't edit my post anymore, back to the battery installation photo, there's an orange assist arm. The person who installs the battery uses that, they do not have to lift that heavy battery 602 times/day. Operating assist arms are kinda like video games... buttons, push this to activate that, up, down, right, left, etc...
