And that discount could be savings upward to $500 as some states don't regulate dealer fees. Here in NJ, one can charge $399 while another down the block $250. With the affiliate, it's a flat $75 "dealer/doc" fee and nothing else. So, that can be another 1/2-1% off

Re: joining tread lightly to get Chrysler Affiliate discount

Please do note that some dealers do not participate in the affiliate program.

I did use the affiliate discount (my employer offers it as a benefit) and it did make the transaction a lot easier. That said, I suspect if I had taken the time to go to a particular high-volume dealer down the road apiece, I may have been able to negotiate a better price for the car and maybe even my trade. I strongly suspect that my dealer could have offered better on my trade than they did...my bad for wanting the car more than wanting to maximize the deal.

I supposed if we know the MY14 can's be had lower than 1% below invoice, using the affiliate discount (I too get it from work) makes buying a car pleasantly easy - no haggling or BS involved.

Re: joining tread lightly to get Chrysler Affiliate discount

AbleRiot, true, and it certainly did make for a less complicated buying process. (outside of the trade thing) I'd probably do it again, although I'd also probably do a little more "research" with other dealers in a larger radius before zeroing in on a specific deal the next time around. It's a nice benefit, for sure!

I do think there is more benefit "in general" with the affiliate discount later in the model year cycle and for folks buying off the lot. For customers ordering from the factory, some dealers went a lot lower because they knew they'd have no inventory carry costs since the vehicle might only be in their hands for hours or a day or two at the most. The high-volume incentives to dealers also helped in that respect.

Re: joining tread lightly to get Chrysler Affiliate discount

It is obvious that the dealer also makes out when you get the Chrysler Affiliate discount(I've read they get a 2% kickback)..since my dealer was more than happy to pay the $100 for me to join Tread Lightly just to get it!

Yeah I'm same way just want a quick easy no BS deal. Hopefully most NJ dealers will work with the affiliate program. I also get it thru work. In fact we get those kind of deals from most car manufacturers.

Are you sure about this? I don't have my employer number to access the website but I did call and the lady sounded confused but did say the dealer can still charge whatever doc fees they like....like I said, she didn't sound 100% sure. Is it written out on the website or program details?

I am very close to placing an order for a 2014 and will make my final offer and hopefully get an additional $500 on my trade-in. The dealer is also charging $349 in doc fees. I have not mentioned this to the dealer yet but through my employer I qualify for the affiliate pricing, however, I did much better than the 1% below invoice. Should I make a push to get those doc fees removed or just be happy if I get an additional $500 for my trade since I beat the 1% anyway??

Let the dealership know you're a member , IIRC, the dealership gets something extra back for honoring Affiliate pricing Someone correct me if i'm wrong. But from what I have read and been told, they are not allowed to charge you any other fees except the $75 admin fee for affiliate purchase.

Just to muddy the waters. One dealer i'm speaking with here in Kentucky just sent me an e-mail and said "My dealer documenation fees are $499 The tread lightly doesn't cap the fees at $75, the rule for the fee cap is applicable only to Chrysler Employees, not affiliate rewards program."

So there's that.

So there's that.
Ask him to produce the paperwork proving the rule as he stated it!

He won't be able to is my bet.
