Yes, from experience and it's also been mentioned/discussed a number of times in various threads. It's even in the instructions that come with the map update! Printed on paper even...

The $150+ update for in dash units is pretty common, it's not unique to Chrysler/Jeep.

May not be unique and pretty common but that does not make it right.

Just businees to me. Lots of things are not right. Starbucks can charge over $2 for a cup (while spelling your name wrog)) but you can get the same size for $.79 at the local gas station. It is amazing at what other car manufacturers are charging, which does go way above the price we would pay with Jeep.

Re: Just boggles the mind

I don't really consider it right or wrong. Buyers always want it for less, while sellers always want more. If something is more than you want to pay for it ... don't buy it.

The guy selling a used Jeep "KNOWS" it's worth $30,000. The guy looking to buy the same used Jeep "KNOWS" it's only worth $25,000.

Employees are always under paid, while employers are always over paying them. Where does all that extra money go.

Sure beats living in a place with price controls.

+1 The dedicated unit business model is dead man walking as the mobile age moves on. I'll just use my Galaxy S5 Google Maps Turn-by-turn voice navigation. That said, we pay for it another way. If you can't figure out how it's paid for then YOU are the product.

Just boggles the mind

I read a few years ago that the days of inbuilt Nav systems, stereos and other in built media systems are numbered. Soon there will just a universal input where your bring your own system can interface. Technology in media systems moves too fast to be stuck with an outdated built in system. BMW with an inbuilt phone or TV anyone?

I agree with that. No way the OEMs can support a mix-and-match of whatever the customer wants - and wants next year when the new iGadget comes out. (I'm reminded of this watching all the TV news segments this morning, showing lemmings sitting outside Apple stores across the country..)

I usually take my lifetime-maps-and-traffic Garmin with me on longer trips, even though I have the inbuilt NAV..

Re: Just boggles the mind

Weren't the NAV maps in our 2014's two years outdated to begin with...and now they want to charge us $150.00 to update?

I agree that the nature of the vehicle systems is going to evolve to be more in line with how we humans use technology. There will still be a need to support certain things for a long time, such as "radio", but there is a definite trend already started with providing visual and control to off-board devices, such as smartphones and the apps on them, while also serving in the traditional role of amplification and soundstage. I'm not sure how fast this evolution will be able to move, however...consider the folks who insist they need a CD Player. On the human side of things, change is sometimes difficult and marketing is going to accommodate that.
