Vans are not exciting. Plain and simple. Convenient, but boring. Just not my tea but that might be because I'm 23.

I am 37 with two kids, I will not drive a minivan. I will learn to pack my SUV and take (usually useless) less crap on a road trip, not egging the minivan just not my thing.

^I agree. If I make the move to a 3 row vehicle it will be a new XC90 R Design or a Suburban.

Re: Just drove a 2017 Pacifica. Impressed!

When my 4 kids were young I had a few minivans, 2 Ford Aerostars, Mercury Villager and a Pontiac Montana. It is so much easier for kids to get into a minivan. Now that they are grown and out of the house, NO MORE MINIVANS FOR ME!!!!

Re: Just drove a 2017 Pacifica. Impressed!

One of the largest "family" benefits of the mini-van format is the sliding doors, especially in parking lots. So they make a lot of sense in many situations. But even with that benefit, so many folks have jumped on the SUV bandwagon even when the MV might actually be a more practical choice. While I have no desire to own and drive one at this point in my life, under different circumstances, they might be on the "short list".

I think that FCA has done a nice job with the Pacifica. It really was time for a "next generation" MV for them and keeps them in the game they started so many years ago.

Re: Just drove a 2017 Pacifica. Impressed!

Well said everyone. I was just kind of curious as to why people either love them or hate them. Since we do have a minivan, what I really like about the Pacifica is it almost reminds me of being in the Grand Cherokee Summit and they make it an enjoyable place to be. Awesome tech, more features than the Grand Cherokee, and just not your typical appliance like interior that you find in most vans. Nice job Chrysler!
Like I said earlier in this thread I do hope some of things things they did here move into the Grand Cherokee line. LOVE the high gloss flat screen and the color of the mocha/black interior!

This is how I turn my JGC into a "minivan" when I need the extra space

I really have nothing against minivans, hope this one does well for FCA's bottom line.

I had a Suburban for a few days as a loaner. It was like switching to a school bus from the GC.

The Yukon was only slightly shorter.

That is awesome, BUT on long distance trips with three kids GC is not the right vehicle. I will be driving to Duck, NC (7 hr drive) and having my three kids on that bench would be torture (for the kids and my wife and I). We also drive to the NJ shore every couple weeks or so in the summer (2 hr dr).

Both my wife and I said years ago we would NEVER get a minivan (just like the guy in the insurance commercial), but when we had our third child that all changed. And thank goodness it did. The MV has made life sooo much easier. Now, since our youngest is 5 when I am ready to trade the van in in another 3 years or so, we will most certainly be looking back at an SUV.

Yeah the Yukon is Tahoe sized unless you get the XL. I've had 3 Tahoes and a suburban before. Where I live it's truck country so everyone has a pickup or a full size SUV. Soccer moms call my GC a "cute little jeep" all of the time here. It's kinda annoying. So owning a burb is like second nature to me due to where I have grown up.

There are other vehicles that are just as capable to travel with when you have 3 children. While I do agree, 3 kids and a GC wouldn't make the best family car, you still couldn't push me into a van. Explorer Sport, XC90, Acadia Denali, Sorento SXL, Durango R/T, MDX - All that I'd consider before a van. And if price weren't an issue, then clearly a burb, Yukon XL, Escalade ESV.

Vans just don't appeal. No doubt they offer the best (except overall luxury and prestige), but people don't like them. The amount of crossovers and SUVs being moved by manufacturers proves that people don't want vans.

Sure if you don't have young kids it makes perfect sense, but besides that, for family use it does everything better. Easy to drive, better on fuel, loads of room, extremely versatile, very comfortable, practically the same dimensions, but with a ton more room...the list goes on. My Grand Cherokee literally has no more passenger space than our old Honda Accord. Sometimes I actually try to figure out what exactly is the point of a 2 row SUV. I know I'm getting a bit defensive here, but the amount of people who claim they will never drive a minivan is kind of comical, yet they are probably among one the most common vehicles on the road
I agree with this, I hear that all the time, "a minivan?, gross!" It's all about the image but I just don't get it. I have a friend who takes her 2 kids to school in a 4Runner TRD Pro. I'm pretty sure the other parents aren't saying, hmm, I wonder what that professional base jumper is doing at our school today. No one is fooled by the pretend "active lifestyle".
A minivan will hold 2 full sets of wheels/tires (slicks and rain) for a race weekend is all I know!
