Now that you've laundered the fob...you have no choice but to trade it in!

With a fresh and clean Fob it should easily boost the value of the vehicle by $1000!

Thanks to everyone for your input. I am still in the debating mode and am probably going to wait till december before I make any decisions. This will allow more 17's to arrive so I can test drive them and make a better informed decision.

Not sure if I will lease or buy a new vehicle or even if it will be another jeep. All I know is I have a great vehicle now and its serving me well. Not a bad place to be.

Re: Keep it or sell it?

Unless I have missed something here, I am puzzled as to why you want to sell the 2015 vehicle in the first place?

As far as leasing is concerned, I've never considered leasing a vehicle because I put upwards of 25,000 miles/year on them, which is often more than twice what a lease typically allows, Also, leases often have numerous strings attached. In addition, at the end of a lease you really don't have anything to show for the money you've spent, that being equity.

In my opinion, leasing is a rational decision only if you drive relatively few miles per year, and you want to drive a new vehicle every couple of years.

Re: Keep it or sell it?

The original thought behind the decision was because I know I have roughly 9-10k in positive equity right now. I only drive roughly 12k/year and I get a new vehicle roughly every 2-3 years.

If I found a sign and drive lease that could keep my payments roughly the same, I would pocket the 9k in positive equity. Of course the vehicle would have to match the one I have now as it would be dumb to go to a lesser vehicle than the one I have currently.

Edit: I am also thinking about selling the jeep, taking that positive equity and putting it towards a completely optioned out '17 Overland. Grab the V8 and the 4x4.

Keep it or sell it?

You don't really have 9-10k in equity. You have 30k-35k in debt. I paid cash for my 2015 Overland HA and by this logic I could sell it for $40k after having paid $45k (plus taxes and registration) and I've driven it for 9 months. I paid cash for my 2012 before this. Paid $42,800 and traded it in for $29,000 after driving it for 49 months. You calculate the lease payments per month x number of years and compare it to what I'm paying for my Overlands. You will find out you'll be driving the same vehicle and paying more if you lease.

Completely and 100% agree with this. You're right, I am certainly not making money by selling it as the loan debt is still there. I merely meant to infer that I am not upside-down on my vehicle.
