Key fob not detected

Good news: the Jeep dealer successfully programmed my new fob that I purchased from eBay. Bad news: it only works for locking/unlocking, remote start and power liftgate. It will NOT let me drive with it. The "keyless-go" feature does not work. The truck doesn't recognize the key is present so it won't fully start. Kinda sucks. Is there a way to override the system to make it recognize this new fob? Or will I need to get another fob from the dealership? 😩

Re: Key fob not detected

Well, if it won't recognize the fob as being present then the dealer didn't successfully program it.

It seems strange that it will allow every function but not recognize the fob as being present. Have them try reprogramming it again. It may be something they did or didn't do properly.

Re: Key fob not detected

Just read the fine print:

Compatibility: Works with most vehicles that use a factory keyless entry system listed in my compatibility section above. This will not work if you have the "keyless go" proximity feature. This is the feature that allows you to start the vehicle without removing the remote from your pocket. This key must be inserted in your ignition to start the vehicle.

Anyway to "force" the keyless go feature to work? And how do I get to the key hole to insert the fob?

The start button pop's off,use a very small screwdriver to pop off.then you insert the end of fob in slot to start.

Is it a genuine? It does not seem strange at all. There's two parts to get working. 1) remote frequency for lock and unlock, Inc remote bypass start and lift gate. 2) proximity, key detection for vehicle keyless-n-go. A whole complex and expensive system to get working even if genuine. I'm guessing your dealer failed #2.

The seller stated it's OEM and I assume the dealership would have had issues with any programming on a non-OEM fob. So you're saying the dealership can actually get the keyless-go to work with the new key fob considering all the other options work?

No, the proximity component is an entire difficult process to get working. I would only assume the dealer has had little dealings with someone requesting a new keyfob and getting the proximity key working. Something like I would only purchase from a dealer so if it's not working I would return it.

Re: Key fob not detected

There is an RF chip inside that needs re-programing. The dealer should either know how to do this, or be able to tell you where to go to get it programed.

Re: Key fob not detected

I usually always get "factory Mopar" on ebay stuff, never "OEM". That OEM China stuff is good for some things and not for others in my exp. The replica parts look good, but they're just not quality electronics.
I just bought a pair of new Mopar taillights for $287, but could have bought OEM on ebay for $154. Looks the same, but cheaper quality, fogging lenses, and the sockets are not well made.
You may need to try and find a Mopar parts seller on ebay and get another. There are several dealerships that are sellers on there and I deal with Steve White Motors on ebay.
Good Luck
