Re: Key fob not detected

I purchased two new battery's. (CR2032) When I took the old one out and tested it ( GC 11 months old) it read 3.0 volts. Also when I got into the Jeep yesterday my alarm went off. This is twice in one week. The only way to turn the alarm off is by unlocking the doors with the remote. Since I've owned the Jeep this has happened about 8 times. The other 3 times got the message (key fob not detected with alarm going off) So far this is my biggest complaint about owning the Jeep. (BTW it says in the manual the fob battery should last 3 years)

Re: Key fob not detected

Dealer appointment was today. They couldn't replicate it, so are unsure of what is wrong and what to fix. They neglected to fix another issue which I had the GC in for, which they had previously diagnosed and already had the parts for, so I'm going back next week. I asked them to research and look for TSBs. I doubt they'll do that or find anything and I'll likely be talking with Customer Care to try and get some resolution. My GC is over 33K and I'm concerned that it won't get resolved before 36K. Hopefully I can get it addressed into the future if needed, since I've got documentation of reporting before 36K.

Re: Key fob not detected

As long as you raised a concern and they have recorded it in their system before the warranty runs out you should be covered. They have resolved some of my issues after warranty without it costing me.

Re: Key fob not detected

This has happened to me 2 or 3 times. I haven't bothered to ask the dealer about it since it is so random. Oddly it hasn't happened in quite a while.

Re: Key fob not detected

Well after I commented that it has never happened to my GC in 4 years, it happened last night. Luckily I had experienced this before with my Dodge Journey over the summer. Both keys were "not detected". So I rocked the steering wheel and voila, it started.
So I think it has to do with the steering wheel lock. If you have a key start car, you may have experienced the key not turning to start because of the steering wheel lock and rocking the wheel allows you to turn the key and start it.
Anyway, just my experience that worked for me.

Re: Key fob not detected

I've had this happen a couple times with my '12 GC.

Usually I just pull the fob out of my pocket and hold it close to the dash and the vehicle starts, then I throw the fob into the center console cup holder until I get to my destination.

Battery is supposed to last 3 years? Yeah right.
I received a 'low battery' notice in my EVIC at about 18 months.

Replaced the fob battery and haven't had a 'key not found' issue since then.

Re: Key fob not detected

This occurred again to me before I got it back to the dealer. That's 6 times in 6 weeks that I've owned the GC. I gave them the doc that I'd found (not sure they referenced it). They attempted to recreate and it started all "35" times they tried.

I had also submitted a complaint to Jeep/Chrysler. I have since received a follow up call from a case worker. They confirmed the issue will be covered under warranty since I've got documentation of reporting before 36k. They also asked if the dealer opened a case with Chrysler engineers to try to diagnose. The agent was going to call the dealer and suggest that be done and follow up next week. Not holding my breath.

Oddly, this recent recall seems awfully close and lines up with others in this forum on separate threads with similar issues.
And yet another JEEP recall announced today
