Key fob not detected

Last night when I went to start the Jeep I got a message (Key Fob Not Detected) vehicle would not start!...Okay now what... So I figured I'd open the door, step out, and come back in and try again. As soon as I opened the door the alarm went off. Pressed the alarm button on the fob and nothing, alarm still blasting away. I pressed the unlock, lock button on the door.... nothing...finally I pressed the unlock, lock button on the fob and it turned the alarm off. I was then able to start the vehicle. This has happened once before so I don't think it's a low key fob battery??? I can see problems with this in the future especially if the fob battery IS dead. How the heck would you to turn the alarm off. Between this and the battery location under the powered seat I do see problems and aggravation when batteries do go DEAD. Anyone else experience this??? Key fob not detected issue??? If so, what did you do??? Thanks...

Re: Key fob not detected

Greetings,

You use the key in the FOB to unlock the door. I have experienced this problem as well. My FOB has been replace once under warranty and reprogrammed a few times as well.

On your next visit to the service center, let them check it out.

Best for now.

Re: Key fob not detected

I had occasional keyfob not detected issue with early build 2014 Overland (March 2013 build). Keyfob would be detected fine to unlock door but not to start. Open door and alarm would go off. wait long enough and all would be OK. Dealer service could not do anything if they could not replicate the issue and no codes. Bought 3rd keyfob, still occasional keyfob not detected. Figured out that it only happened if vehicle was left locked for between 5 and 20 minutes. This went on about 1 out of 20 times that it was locked and unlocked without keyfob detected for starting (always detected to unlock when touching drivers door). It was in for service 3 times, no parts were ever replaced by dealer or recommended to be replaced by Chrysler customer care. After 12 months I said this is too long without a fix for this and a few other Uconnect issues (HVAC, occasional NAV lockup, etc.). Chrysler customer surprised me with a call and offered to replace without charge for mileage (issues since new). They replaced with May 2014 Summit and all has been 100% fabulous - currently at 5500 miles. Vin # was last seen for sale in Wisconsin as buyback vehicle.
Hopefully Chrysler has figured out what's up by now and can do more for you than what they put me and my wife through with no keyfob detected (even with 3 good keyfobs in vehicle).

Re: Key fob not detected

My son had this happen as he was leaving on a trip. Our dealer will replace the battery at no charge, you can do it yourself, the procedure is in the manual. It uses a CR2032 battery. He just took his spare.

Re: Key fob not detected

Great if replacing key fob battery fixes it. But if battery is good, new, replaced, and fob is detected to unlock door, open tailgate, remote start, and lock-unlock from normal distance, with one, two, or three goof keyfobs in the vehicle, the issue is with start button fob detection not fob. Also, if as with mine, it only happens if left locked for o/a 5 to 20 minutes, something other than the key fobs needs to be serviced (replace electronics that senses fob in vehicle for stsrting vehicle.

Re: Key fob not detected

Every time this has happened my vehicle was locked for a couple of hours. The first time it happened it was only a few days old. The last poster made a good point, if it is the key fob battery nothing else should work either (such as unlocking the doors) Wouldn't be as bad if the dang alarm didn't go off.

Re: Key fob not detected

Had this issue with my 2011 JGC Limited. After a few trips to the dealer they replaced the on-board electronics. Still happened and they ended up replacing the wireless unit and replacing the key FOB. No issues since then and it has been a few years now.

Re: Key fob not detected

Happened to me this morning, key fob dead and had to use key to unlock car.
Key not detected message on dash.
Used my spare key fob and car recognized it instantly.
Replaced battery in dead key fob and now both work perfect.
I think these key fobs use a lot of battery power and drain the battery faster than most.
I always keep a spare battery in the car for when I'm away from home.
Cheers

Re: Key fob not detected

Has happened to me 4 times in the last month since purchasing a used '12 GC. Ea check time auto unlock works and the vehicle starts then dies with a security warning. Have to turn ignition to off, open drivers door, lock and unlock with remote, then will start. Replaced the battery in the fob after the first occurrence, but is still occurring. Headed to the dealer in a few days under warranty to get checked out.

Re: Key fob not detected

Hey, let us know what the dealer turns up please.
I'm wondering if disconnecting the power to the TIPM for 10 minutes might reset the. Computer?
My jeep is a 2011 and I have this problem several times a year.
BTW, my TIPM was replaced 2nd day of ownership and jeep had something like 65 kilometres on it,I had just taken delivery of it.

Re: Key fob not detected

It's never happened with my GC but this summer I experienced it with my new 2014 Dodge Journey (less than 1K miles). I had just pulled into a parking building at a mall, turned off the vehicle (push button), got out and was unable to lock the car. So I checked all the doors and they were closed properly, so I then tried restarting it and I got the message "key undetected". I tried several times and failed. Called my sister to bring the second key fob and same result. Called Chrysler Roadside Assistance and they sent a tow vehicle (3 hours later), the service guy tried without luck so he hooked up the Journey, got back in it to lock the steering wheel and low and behold it started.
So he unhooked the Journey and I drove it to the dealer, they checked it and could not find any faults. Still no clue why it happened. Another forum said it might be related to the steering wheel lock mechanism but who knows.

Re: Key fob not detected

Find every time I keep the fob in the same pocket as my iPhone, the car won't pick up the fob. Move pockets and the fob works. Not sure if there is a bit of RFI happening here. Now keep them in separate pockets.

Given everyone elses experiences, will now be keeping some spare batteries in the car.
