Key FOB Range ?

What's the furthest you've been away from your Jeep, and had the remote start on the key FOB work? I tried mine yesterday from about 200 yards away, with direct line of sight and it worked. Has anyone tried it farther?

Re: Key FOB Range ?

I've never heard of this happening, anywhere. I'm not saying it can't, but what makes me leery is when you read an article like this, and the person who owns the website just happens to sell a bunch of expensive paraphernalia to prevent it from happening.

Re: Key FOB Range ?

I've used it from several hundred feet, including from a high floor at a hotel in Fairfax that I regularly stay at...to warm it up on a cold morning, before I headed out. My MY12 remote has always had pretty impressive range...

RFID readers are very real and there have been quite a number of articles and reports on how easy it is for a thief to steal your personal data. Makes one think about waving a credit card in front of a reader at a store. I can't see where a key fob would be much different.

Did it pass through a window, or did your room have a balcony?

Re: Key FOB Range ?

Mine works fine from inside my kitchen, through a thermopane window, over 50 feet, through an insulated metal garage door.

Window. Works well from inside our house, too...vehicle is about 75 away from the kitchen when parked.

Re: Key FOB Range ?

no need to foil your keys peoples

These are rolling codes and if they intercept a once-used code, it doesn't matter, it will never be used again

- same with most garage door openers today

There was a note somewhere that when locking, you should press multiple times to help avoid that. Unk if that tidbit came from a keyfob sniffer who wanted more chances to capture info.

I've locked mine from well over 300 yards away, where it wasn't quite line of site--the vehicle is parked on a lower parking lot where only the extreme top is visible.
