Keyless Enter-N-Go UNDOCUMENTED feature

So far I haven't see this written anywhere...not in the manual at least that I saw.

(1) If you have selected in the EVIC "Unlock All Doors 1st Press" then when you grab hold of the door handle of either front door, all doors and the liftgate unlock when you have the FOB within 5 ft. outside the vehicle.

(2) If you have selected in the EVIC "Unlock Driver Door 1st Press" then when you grab hold of the driver's front door handle, only the driver's door unlocks when you have the FOB within 5 ft. outside the vehicle. If you grab hold of the front passenger's door handle instead all doors and the liftgate unlock when you have the FOB within 5 ft outside the vehicle.

So, my question was why select "Unlock Driver Door 1st Press" presumably for security if someone can simply grab the front passenger's door handle unlocking all the doors and the liftgate when you are just want to unlock the driver's front door???

Answer: If the FOB is on the driver's side, grabbing hold of the passenger's front door handle does NOT unlock all the doors and the liftgate...it does nothing. That's a good thing. So the GC knows which side the FOB is on (or the vehicle provides enough interference). Good to know.

Re: Keyless Enter-N-Go UNDOCUMENTED feature

There was some talk about that a month or so ago. There are 5(?) sensors in the Jeep that know where you are standing outsaide the Jeep; drivers side, passengers side, at the liftgate or inside the car.

Re: Keyless Enter-N-Go UNDOCUMENTED feature

Starting to like that keyless entry, eh? I originally thought this and a few other convenience features were unnecessary but end up using them frequently.

The keyless entry and auto lift gate really come in handy with ski and muddy mountain bike gear. No fumbling for keys, no leaning gear against the rig causing scrapes or mud, no dropping gear on sloppy ground. Yea, it also works well at home depot, mall, and with kids.

Re: Keyless Enter-N-Go UNDOCUMENTED feature

Yes the passive system in the WK2 was well thought out. It works so well and I take it so much for granted that it's become most frustrating for me to drive another one of our vehicles without it. It's one of the things that has my wife wanting a WK2 of her own now. The ONLY improvement I could suggest for this system is to also have a physical security (chipped) key over-ride in the event the passive system has some kind of failure.

No. Just push the button on the door handle or liftgate to lock all doors.

Re: Keyless Enter-N-Go UNDOCUMENTED feature

Manual says that the fob must be within 5 feet of the door handle that you are touching, not within 5 feet of the vehicle:

Quote:
To Unlock From The Driver’s Side:
With a valid Passive Entry RKE transmitter within 5 ft
(1.5 m) of the driver’s door handle, grab the driver’s front
door handle to unlock the driver’s door automatically.
The interior door panel lock knob will raise when the
door is unlocked.
Quote:
To Unlock From The Passenger Side:
With a valid Passive Entry RKE transmitter within 5 ft
(1.5 m) of the passenger door handle, grab the front
passenger door handle to unlock all four doors automatically.
The interior door panel lock knob will raise when
the door is unlocked.

Re: Keyless Enter-N-Go UNDOCUMENTED feature

^^^ Yes but if you have the fob outside on the driver's front door and someone touches the passengers' front door the passenger's door handle does not respond...that is a good thing. That is about within 5 ft of the passenger's front door handle so I would have thought it would have opened on the passenger's side which would have kinda defeated the select to unlock driver's door first thing...

Re: Keyless Enter-N-Go UNDOCUMENTED feature

I was just pointing out what the manual said because your first post said "within 5 feet outside the vehicle" and it seemed like that was what you thought the manual said.

Also, according to www.jeep.com in the Grand Cherokee vehicle specs, under dimensions, the overall body width is 84.8", which is a little over 7 feet, so standing on the drivers side with the key fob puts the key fob over 7 feet away from the passenger door handle.

Re: Keyless Enter-N-Go UNDOCUMENTED feature

I guess what wasn't clear was that being close to a door handle with a FOB didn't allow other door handles to unlock...that is a good thing to know.

Re: Keyless Enter-N-Go UNDOCUMENTED feature

While itis definitely nice, I wish it workedmore like how our Murano works. Grab the driver door handle and it will unlock the driver door. Press the button a second time and it unlocks the rest of the doors.

Re: Keyless Enter-N-Go UNDOCUMENTED feature

The "driver door unlock first" is tied to the same feature for the unlock button on the key fob remote in the EVIC. If you configure the remote unlock to unlock the driver door on the first button push and unlock the rest of the doors on the second button push, then the keyless enter sensor on the driver's door handle does the same thing. It only unlocks the drivers door the first time that you touch it and then it unlocks the rest of the doors the second time that you touch it. Remember that the button on the front door handles are for locking only, not unlocking. It is the sensor area that your finger tips contact when pulling the handle that does the unlocking, and touching it a second time will unlock all of the doors when the EVIC is configured for "Driver door unlock first". The sensor on the passenger side door handle will always unlock all of the doors the first time that it is touched though. The lock/unlock button on the rear hatch works the same way as the driver door handle sensor is programmed (first touch unlocks hatch & flipper glass only, or first touch unlocks all doors).
