Once the change to electronics gets sorted out, they tend to be orders of magnitude more reliable than mechanicals.
Unfortunately, this requires engineers familiar with both good electronics design as well as the mundane issues of connectors, mechanical stress, heat, cold, etc.
Then, it requires technicians who can troubleshoot electromechanical systems and those rarely are the ones who can troubleshoot pure mechanical issues by ear.
Meanwhile, the products tend to have a lot of issues and poor service caused by poor serviceability design.
