That's how mine was from the factory. I had to open the clamp quite a bit before I could slide it all the way onto the post, then it tightened like it should. The cover won't help in maintaining good contact.

Once the change to electronics gets sorted out, they tend to be orders of magnitude more reliable than mechanicals.

Unfortunately, this requires engineers familiar with both good electronics design as well as the mundane issues of connectors, mechanical stress, heat, cold, etc.

Then, it requires technicians who can troubleshoot electromechanical systems and those rarely are the ones who can troubleshoot pure mechanical issues by ear.

Meanwhile, the products tend to have a lot of issues and poor service caused by poor serviceability design.

Did the transmission get noticeably better within a few days after you did the full reboot?

It seems to... most of the time.

My major issue with the tranny is that in the morning or after its been sitting at work for a few hours it is violently rough in 1-2-3 gears. Lasts until i get some mileage on it, which did not happen before 6500mi. That was not fixed but some of the clunking and unsmooth behavior was relieved.

Sounds like either a bad check valve is allowing transmission fluid to drain back, or you are low on fluid. My Wrangler was exhibiting this same behavior, a quart of ATF4 and it all went away. Unfortunately, I don't believe the eight speed transmissions in the WK2 are user servicable. The dealer would have to address it.
