That's why I bought my first ever warranty. I only bought it Max Care) for 5 years since that would be a long time for me, but I do like this Jeep. I don't drive much, but I have almost as much mileage on my Jeep now, as I had on my '11 Acura when I traded it in.

Re: Lifetime extended warranties, do they make sense?

The number of electronic systems whether they are finicky or not is sufficient reason for my 8/120. I used mine yesterday for an alignment and they use Hertz rental cars.
If I never need to use my service contract that would be just fine with me but for 1950 this is the first service contract or extended warranty I have ever purchased.
In general extended warranties are a waste of money but in this case I think not...

Who did you purchase it from?

What's the main reason for purchasing the warranty at time of sale, versus waiting until the factory warranty expires?

Saving a little bit of money. The price goes up a bit every year you get closer to the manufactures original warranty ending.

Aside from the fact that the price will probably go up naturally over time, I think if you don't buy it within a certain time frame or mileage, you pay a higher price. I read that when I was looking around last year, but don't recall where. I suggest you verify it one way or the other if you plan to buy later.

Re: Lifetime extended warranties, do they make sense?

I bought mine at time of purchase to roll the payment in to my loan. Yes, I pay more with interest in the end, but it makes the cash flow easier. It's also more predictable, since I don't know what it will cost in 3 years.

I had enough "minor" repairs to my old truck that cost "non-minor" amounts of money to make the Lifetime worth the gamble. I doubt I would have bought a 100K contract, as many vehicles do well to 100K nowadays.

The completeness and lifespan of the contract make it compelling to me, the rental is a nice benefit. The only final problem is whether the vehicle will be "worth repairing" if and when something major goes wrong with it. That's the only real gamble in my eye.

Re: Lifetime extended warranties, do they make sense?

In Florida it is transferrable.

I bought a Chrysler "lifetime" (2099) service contract despite not driving any car much in a year, when the 5 year basic warranty expires I may reach 25,000 miles, rather it was the potential expense of a repair after that, modern computer cars are so integrated that DIY is very difficult.

Re: Lifetime extended warranties, do they make sense?

Seems like just after 12 months /12k miles it goes up by about $100 .

Re: Lifetime extended warranties, do they make sense?

I bought the Lifetime Max Care online from Zeigler Auto. It was about half the cost of what was offered to me at the time of purchase with a shorter term.

I look at it like this. I had an 04 Durango that I just traded in for 14 WK2. In the last few years, the rear heater went out, front A/C went out, and CD changer had failed. The vehicle was mechanically sound, but I didn't want to spend a couple of thousand dollars to fix non-essential equipment, so I traded it in. I figured had I had the extended warranty on it, I may have still bought a new car, but I would have kept it around for other reasons.

I know that now I'm covered not only for major mechanical failure, but also the incidentals. And this vehicle has more gadgets and gizmos to fail.

Is this the Ziegler auto in Illinois? I'm semi interested. Traditionally, extended warranties are pure profit for the dealer and an excellent indicator of the statistical probability of future repair coats (minus deductibles, exclusions, and wear/tear items). However this is my first Chrysler product and I'm not feeling confident in my purchase and long term reliability.
