Re: Lifetime extended warranties, do they make sense?

My MaxCare Lifetime Extended Service Contract has already paid for itself since I blew through my original warranty in two years due to milage and the plan has covered a necessary repair and rental that would have been more expensive than the $2180 I paid for the contract. That's exactly why I purchased it...and this is the first time I've done so on a vehicle.

I agree with canistel, it's probably the misfire. The long thread about tranny issues were with the 8 speed that came with the 3.6L, so your 2012 5.7 is not subject to those issues.

Re: Lifetime extended warranties, do they make sense?

My suggestions is that if you get the first model year after a refresh, higher end model with lots of electrical features, plan to keep your vehicle for a while, or have a new updated motor like the diesel; then yes, definitely get the extended service contract. I see mine definitely paying for itself, as I have the 2014 JGC Overland CRD. With all the issues with the diesels, possible issues with the air suspension, etc, one break and its already paid for. I do a lot of driving and already about to be out of my 36K mile warranty and its only a year old. I just wish that they offered an Lifetime warranty. I did however already get use out my Appearance Care Plus warranty. Someone left a small ding in my rear door in a parking lot and I had had a small tear in the leather on my steering wheel, and I took it in and they fixed it without question or additional cost. They also supplied a rental while the work was being performed.

"Appearance Care Plus warranty" First time I've heard of it. What is it? Is it part of Max Care?

Not part of MaxCare. Just an insurance add-on. The person at the dealership who tells you to initial here, here, here, here, here, here, and here, for all the extra coverage you declined, can give you more info on this add on.

It's hard to find anything online about it. Guys in the service department didn't even know about it. When I purchased my Jeep the finance guy went over all the extra add-ons, which I denied. Although I called the dealership back 10 months later to add it on. As long as you are within the 3yr 37K mile warranty, you can add on any of the extended warranties.

The Auto Appearance Plus is actually one of Mopars protection plans. Mopars protection website only shows the two max care and added care extended warranties, but if you go to the FAQ's it states that there are additional warranties that are not listed on the website, including the auto appearance care plan. You can call the Mopar sales hotline at 1-888-240-2709 as well to get information. Doesn't seem like something they really market that great. It's also not that much to add it on, and in my mind definitely worth it. It even replaces cracked windshields, which happens a lot to those in the north during winter due cinder/salt trucks. To top it off, it also covers carpets and floor mats. Although I went weathertech liners all around so I don't think that should be an issue anytime soon. Although, with having a leather dash and steering wheel in my Overland it seemed like this protection plan would definitely come in handy. Which it did already.

Doing a google search, I came across this.

Too bad it doesn't cover hail damage. Around here that would be worth at least two or three insurance deductibles.

Re: Lifetime extended warranties, do they make sense?

I negotiated the 7 year/ 160 000 KM Extended Gold warranty into the purchase deal of my 2014. With all the gadgets and gizmos in the 2014+ GCs I think it's worth it

I am currently looking into that same plan with dealer.
Does it include service as well?
Interestly enough, dealer was originally pushing some other plan called FCPP....but after some "google time" don't think I want any part of that deal.

It's a bumper to bumper warranty. Covers everything but regular maintenance items (e.g. oil, brake pads, tires, etc).
