Lifting WK2 with Floor jack

I know the instructions say to lift the vehicle at the pinch welds in front but those pinch welds love to get dinged up which will eventually deform and rust. I've seen the pinch weld adapter to be used for the lifting pad of floor jacks but it won't fit on my US made floor jack. It doesn't have a hole in the center of the lifting pad.

I was wondering since the front lower control arms are made of steel, would that location be ok to lift the front of the vehicle with a floor jack? I then could place jack stands with a padded top under the proper spots at the pinch welds to hold the vehicle.

What do you think?

If not, I've noticed that underneath the vehicle, inboard about 6" towards the center of the vehicle, and not painted in one spot on each side (as if this spot was used to hold the vehicle when it was painted), there is a large what looks like a frame rail that could be used to lift the vehicle with a floor jack.

Maybe that spot would work?

Thanks

Re: Lifting WK2 with Floor jack

consider using a hockey puck or something similar to prevent damage also.

I have a couple of hockey pucks and while looking under there earlier, the hockey puck with a narrow cut in it for the pinch weld to sit in would cut right through the hockey puck. I think if I just tried the hockey puck without a cutout, the thing would flex so much from the weight of the vehicle on the pinch weld, that it wouldn't be very stable to lift at that location.

Has anyone tried using a hockey puck with a floor jack?
