Little Accident :( looking for advice.

not going to beat around the bush... backed up and clipped a fire hydrant!!! car only has 3500 miles on it, 2015 altitude (wishing it had the backup camera right about now!)

heres the damage..

is it worth trying the ebay offers for the pre painted bumper cover or suck it up and just go to a body shop and have them do the work? I'm located in RI if anyone could refer a good body shop it would be appreciated also...

thanks

Re: Little Accident :( looking for advice.

Sorry to see that happen to your new Altitude, but accidents do happen and luckily damage is only confined to the bumper cover and the wheel well/finder trim piece.
I don't have experience with purchasing pre-painted bumpers from online, but I can only imagine the paint match wont be perfect....I could be wrong though! Maybe read through some of the reviews first and see what they say.
Maybe just purchase a new OEM bumper cover and have a quality shop paint it and call it a day. Swapping the rear bumper is super easy you can do it yourself in literally 15 minutes.
At allmoparparts.com I'm showing the new OEM bumper cost is $227.13, and the rear wheel fender flare is $43.84. So those costs plus shipping and a body shop to paint is what you will be looking at outside of insurance. If you want to go the insurance route that is up to you, but the problem I see with that is a shop is going to have to have your Jeep for a while, and I would be worried about them trying to paint more than just the bumper because they cant match it perfectly. So then they will try and paint up into the rear quarter panels to blend it. I would absolutely NOT want them to touch any other part of the car, and they just might.
Hope this helps.

Re: Little Accident :( looking for advice.

Ouch, sorry to see that. I clipped the trailer hitch on my SUV with my sports car; thought for sure I had done serious damage to the body but it was only a small scratch on bumper and major scrapes on the rim. I know the feeling of being a dumb***.

If you'd be willing to go to Brooklyn, I know of a guy on an Infiniti FX forum (Infiniti Scene I think) that owns a body shop. His work has always appeared top notch to the point of me not-so-jokingly saying I would ship a wrecked car to him if I had to have it repaired.

Re: Little Accident :( looking for advice.

I had a bad experience with a prepainted Ebay bumber a few years back when I had the 2011. The only way to match the paint is by having your truck present. So you can expect the paint to not match. Also those bumpers sold on Ebay are not really new, they have repairs done after accident. I would stay away from them.

If you have a good insurance guy, call him and ask him if he recommends any good body shops. We send a body shop a ton of business and they will always give our customers a great deal out of pocket.

Re: Little Accident :( looking for advice.

This is what I was going to say. Also insurance agent will be thrilled that you are not filing a claim.
