Locking door with handle button

I noticed sometimes that when I press the button on the handle to pick the doors, the headlights blink but the doors don't lock. When I press it a second time, the car locks. Why is that?

Re: Locking door with handle button

Same here. Dealer changed handle multiple times and still doing it. Even have Customer Care involved since I've had multiple issues that have been addressed and fixed except for this. The other issue I had that is yet to be resolved is that I have to push the rear hatch release on the FOB 4 times to open it if the Jeep has been sitting for a while. It's like it goes to sleep and I have to push a button to wake it up and then enter a command. The dealer said that is how it's suppose to operate. Not buying it. Jeep is going in again this week since I am now having radio issues with touch screen losing features and controls not registering. I will let you know if they find anything. I'm not holding my breath. Unfortunately I have learned to live with these little nuances or bugs as they are called with all the technology.

Re: Locking door with handle button

It's too smart and it's all software driven. Mine sometimes unlock if I walk past my passenger door and not touch the car. On the drivers, I have to be very close to the door, ie pocket with the key touching the door in order to lock the car with the handle(some days it's ok and functions normally). Unfortunately it never happens are the dealer.

Re: Locking door with handle button

Make sure you are not placing any part of your hand or fingers inside the door handle when locking it with the handle button. Just wanted to make sure you are operating it correctly.

Re: Locking door with handle button

I have noticed this a few times on my new Summit. The back of the handle has a sensor for unlocking that I think is too sensitive and sometimes thinks I am touching it when I am only actually touching the lock button. The second press always locks doors when the first press just flashes lights.

Re: Locking door with handle button

There's a chance there's water stuck in the handles causing the faults

Ive had the door open and standing in the gap. Ive heard the doors unlock while standing there a few times....

Lately, I've been having issues where the button on the handle won't lock my vehicle on the first try. Will have to do it 2-4 times before locking. Can't repeat it. It just happens.

Re: Locking door with handle button

^^^ Same here with my 2014 Summit late built with 4500 miles. Sometimes it locks on first press and other times it takes a couple tries. Mine has also done it like you guys said where I unlock it, and as I'm getting in the car the lights flash again as if I was unlocking it again. Kind of weird and slightly annoying. My 2012 Overland never did anything like this.

---------- Post added at 09:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:34 AM ----------

I have been contemplating getting OEM painted mirror caps and door handles. Maybe this slightly issue will sway me to go ahead and just do it. So I can see if purchasing brand new door handles will take care of the issue. If it does, then we know the problem lies within the door handle electronics itself.

Re: Locking door with handle button

Ive also found that after a car wash my auto unlock handle and the button will not work. It seems like water gets in there and you have to wait for it all to dry. Every single time I get the car washed, immediately after I have to unlock the car from the fob rather than just grabbing the handle (first world problem, I know. Still a PITA)

Re: Locking door with handle button

"Finger lock" works consistantly on first touch on both the driver's side door and the rear hatch on my MY12. It requires three touches on my passenger side door...and it's always been that way.

Re: Locking door with handle button

If you grab the handle in any way, it will unlock the car. However, pressing the button without grabbing the handle is not a natural movement imho.

It took me awhile to get used to it. I was getting frustrated trying to lock the car by pressing the button but my issue was there was always a finger slipping behind the handle which would cause the unlock issue. Now, I just basically just press the button without grabbing the handle at all and it has been working perfectly.

This. Press the button without touching any other part of the handle.
