Can this be done with the car running in idle?

Re: Locking doors with key fob in car

I believe so - I didn't try that - I have only done it when the significant other "(inadvertently) locked her keys in at the mall 30 miles away.

just make sure you have your login all set up in advance and you and she both know the EXACT answers to the security question(s) if you call the help line....

It's worth it just for this! Especially if your wife is anything like mine

Re: Locking doors with key fob in car

I did have an experience where it let me do it, but the key was close to the passenger door (close enough that it thought it was outside the car). Luckily I quickly realized it, and it also let me unlock it! Would that have worked an hour later... maybe not.

Also, sometimes I want to lock the electronic key in and take just the emergency metal key with me (like if I go swimming somewhere) in which case I hit the lock button on the key fob itself, then put the key in the Jeep and close it.

Re: Locking doors with key fob in car

I've left the key fob inside the car several times and when i try to lock it pressing the button it doesn't lock. I think this is a good thing

Re: Locking doors with key fob in car

I left my key fob in the Jeep one day. my wife went out and threw her bag with fob in the back and pressed lock button. Later she came up to me and said she locked her key in the car and asked for mine... oops.
I went to Jeep dealer (luckily 2 miles away, presented my ID) and got a duplicate spare key (not a fob) and it now sits in the house.
We love our Overland and unfortunately it is not completely idiot proof
