Cool Long term question WK2

K Im just being honest here so I don't need a bunch of replies telling me how much the quality has improved.
My question is i have an 09 laredo x and while mine was getting skid plates installed i sat in a 2013 laredo x with nav... My observations were that there was still hard plastic everywhere except the top dash board(which was still really hard) and leather inserts on door panel and soft touch on top of the door panel like on my 09.... My 09 has real leather inserts with vinyl (mckinley leather ) on the sides where as the 13 is all vinyl and seats aren't as padded but overall i like the wk2 almost as much as my 09 but Im worried about all the painted surfaces... Can some long term 2011 owners chime in on how the painted surfaces have held up? If they're anything like my old bmw then i want to run... Kinda like how 200k mile porsches still looks like a porsche and a 200k bmw looks like crap... Also is it easy to swap wood panels? When you look up close at the laredo wood you can see print marks it looks so fake its ridiculous... Do they offer aluminum inserts? Im still leaning towards my 09 cause i like the looks of the interior better and how durable its been (leather dash steering wheel and seats still look brand new and fake aluminum looks good ) but Im close to taking a wk2 for the long term instead.... How's the durability so far wk2 owners? Any pics would be appreciated too?

Re: Long term question WK2

I'm sorry...but there is just no comparing the interior of an 09 to a WK2. Its like a night and day difference. I would never have purchased a GC before the WK2, they seriously went from last place in interior quality compared to other mainstream brands to maybe 3rd compared with luxury brands and being an award winner for best interior. Its pretty impressive.

Yes there is still hard plastic low on the dash and doors, you're going to have that in a vehicle at this price point. But, I come from a long line of driving luxury cars (you can see from my sig I also have a brand new Lexus GS) and the interior quality of the WK2 is very good, even in the Laredo X. Yes the trim is fake, I think its an okay looking fake, but again the Laredo is the base model.

Mine is nearly 2 years old and 26k in, everything has aged very well.

Reliability is okay, still not great compared with the Japanese, but mainly little issues.

Re: Long term question WK2

LaredoX, based on your comments I recommend the Overland with real wood and leather dash and above doors and Nappa leather seats. Also, to switch out the 7 pieces of "wood trim" the cost for those parts is about $2800 which even if you got a good price of say $2,100 is still way too much.

Re: Long term question WK2

Your speaking about a Laredo so ofcourse it's not going to have all the leather and fancy stuff everywhere. Even besides that though the WK's don't even compare.

I saw the overland but i can't do chrome on the exterior.... I can't stand it hence i got the laredo x wk... The wk interior like mine with leather appearance group isn't night and day from the new laredo x other than the wk is crisp and bold whereas the wk2 is more elegant and classy but anyways i think if jeep came out with a brushed aluminum option like in the x5 i would be sold on the wk2.... Is anyone from jeep here listening lol

Yes, brushed aluminum in place of the wood trim, and much less chrome on the upper end models would get me to buy a new one. I have a 2012 Overland and replaced much of the chrome with painted parts (grille, JEEP emblem, rear light bar, and mirrors). They (Jeep) are reading this forum.

LOL, thats just not an unbiased statement. The material quality in the WK is terrible. Among the worst economy car style plastic you ever see in a vehicle. Buddy of mine has a 2010 Overland...its sh!t inside. Just ask Scott the board admin, he has an 09 and a WK2 SRT and he'll be the first to say the same thing.

The Trailhawk model has a brushed trim.

This man speaks the truth. The WK2 is a massive step forward from the WK interior wise, even if you compared the WK2 Laredo X to the WK1 Overland (a forum member actually did this).

I considered a WK1 SRT8, but just couldn't bring myself to deal with the terrible interior. I tried to like it, I really did. I liked the rest of the vehicle, but the interior was just a deal killer.

Have had my Overland for about a year now. Love it, interior still looks brand new, have had to fix a few paint chips (black - I never learn my lesson on black cars), wouldn't mind a bit better fuel economy but not much you can do about a 5200 pound behemoth punching a hole through the air big enough for a small elephant.

The painted surfaces inside look brand new. The REAL wood looks new. The paint outside has some chips I've had to touch up. Can't complain really.

yeah I didn't even know it had it until I saw one in the showroom when I stopped off to see the 2014s. I'm sure they sell it, but I bet its $1k+

Yes, I have always liked the idea of the Jeep, and the styling of the Jeep, and the go anywhere nature, but the quality of the interior for the cost always drove me away...until the WK2.

Dude i just sat in one.... Its not unbiased.... The new overland and summit are way nicer than the 2008-10 but for the laredo x compared to old laredo x there isn't much difference....there is the same hard grained plastic surfaces everywhere except the top of the dashboard which is not true soft touch compared to soft touch in bmw.... It still feels very hard and rubbery and the the other thing is mine has real perf leather inserts with vinyl sides on the whole seat where as the new one is all vinyl with hard plastic backsides ... Those are facts... Im not here to argue about that either.... the truth is all jeep did was get better at making all the plastic look better either by painting them silver or with a fake burl wood graphic but at the end of the day it is all still plastic which is fine for me i don't want an overland jeep seems oxymoronic to me... I just wanted to know if the painted surfaces last because i had a bmw and the painted surfaces started peeling within 2 years.... I also prefer the aluminum in the wk so Im going to have to check out this trailhawk...

LOL...okay. I've put 25,000 miles on one but you sat in one so you definitely know. A lot of people don't see a difference in a chuck round and a tenderloin roast either, doesn't mean there isn't a difference though.
