Yeah dude, I would say just be prepared because if you drive one you will be hard pressed not to walk right in afterwards and start talking numbers... you will want to drive it home.

My concern would be the constant stop-n-go mixed with potholes (not to mention the Cross Bronx, South bound Henry H, FDR...etc.,) that over a quick amount of time, the fitment and quality of the Jeep will show before the FX would (ie. creaks, rattles, etc.)
This is exactly why I bought the jeep instead of any suv with a "sport" suspension. I just read an article that claimed that Atlanta city roads are top 3 worst in the country. I spend 90% of my time on these patchwork and metal plate ridden roads and they are just awful. I can attest that I love the ride quality of my 4x4 summit with quadra lift... is awesome on city roads! Plus the back seat leg room is superb.

Re: Looking for advice on purchasing a new Jeep

I know I am drifting off-topic here, but would you get fully loaded limited or Overland ? Only reason I am considering the limited is the lack of QL which I am not sure I need.

I think the Overland model is superb. The interior color is beautiful and the overall upscale look is great. However, I don't necessarily think the added features justifies the added cost. The adaptive cruise and blind spot is nice, but is it really needed? The Jeep is capable, shouldn't the driver be capable as well ?
The QL is awesome. I love the look when its dropped in Park mode, and I like the additional clearance when you jack it up to its full height. However, the 1% of time that I could really use it, I'm sure I can 'get by' with the standard QTII.

So now, I have a limited, with the features that I want, with the exterior look of the Overland (minus the grille inserts,) and saved a few grand...

+1 to this rig riding combat duty cross town NYC. I'd do so in a heartbeat and Imma country boy.

I do similar urban stop and go on crappy tarmack in Denver, then hit high speed highway at elevation, then deep snow and trail in the mountains. Kick ass.

Paddy is correct, prepare yourself to be closed when you pilot one.

Re: Looking for advice on purchasing a new Jeep

Allright, you guys convinced me, I'll wait a month or so and see if I can get a better price on returning the G, and then I'll order the Jeep. If my wife complains I'll give her the link to this forum and tell her that the internet told me to get it...i am sure she will understand.

I wouldn't have considered anything but an overland summit. Adaptive cruise is one of my favorite features and I also love the blind spot and cross path detection. The nappa leather, heated steering wheel, and cooled seats are worth it alone to me. Sure you don't "need" these things but if I were being honest with myself I also didn't "need" a largish $45,000 4x4 suv with a thirsty hemi. But this purchase wasn't about need for me, as I wouldn't be caught dead driving a Honda CRV (or similar cheap ute).

Sorry for engaging further off topic discussion...

Re: Looking for advice on purchasing a new Jeep

I tried the FX before trying the 2011 JGC (both V6 and V8). I did not go back to the Infinity dealer!

Re: Looking for advice on purchasing a new Jeep

Why did you choose the Jeep ? I am assuming similar reasons most of the other members mentioned here; space, price...

Definitely, space. Not so much price, as the dealer was offering to help buy out my '07 Jeep lease and the financing with Infinity was better than Chrysler, at the time. When I tested the FX, I did a hard acceleration and the transmission didn't seem to know what to do. Certainly looks and included features on the GC. I don't think the FX had auto wipers? Even small things like hit the turn indicator once and it flashes 3 times.

Good luck with your decision.

Re: Looking for advice on purchasing a new Jeep

I test drove a 2011 Porsche Cayenne V6 Tiptronic 8 speed. Suspension is jittery and rough riding. Accelerator seemed to hesitate even in sport mode. It retailed for $54,120 and didn't even have auto dimming mirrors or a sunroof. Jeep Grand looks better. I wasn't blown away by the interior trim either. In fact, I didn't even really consider it an upgrade from my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I won't be getting the Porsche.
