Re: Looking to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee..

Bump. Looks like I might be picking up a 2013 with the V6 motor if they can make the price right. It's a CPO with the 7 yr 100,000 limited warranty. Anything I should be aware of? I heard something about transmission issues and "fishbite"
Is it worth waiting for a 2014 with the newer transmission? Or should I get even newer...think someone told me I should get 2015+ as all the tranny issues were worked out

Re: Looking to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee..

The 8 speed in the 14's and up is quite an improvement and if finances allow, is worth the upgrade. The transmission issue in the V6's was primarily in the early build '14's, but I would make sure any model I was interested in had all updates applied.

Thanks. Though I am still seeing horror stories with 2014 transmissions.. Though I suppose if the car is CPO and under warranty I should be fine.

If its a 2014+ v6 and the trans isnt operating correctly during test drive, move onto the next one reguardless of the warranty. Dont let them tell you they will fix it, it will likely become a nightmare. If its the v6 trans throughly test drive it and make sure it is correct.

Re: Looking to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee..

Thanks. He now has me looking at a fully loaded one for a few grand cheaper but its a 2012 model. Still don't think I'll jump the gun unless they agree to absorb tax and title fees. Anything with the 2012s to worry about?

I'd go for a 2014 over a 2012 ...the 2014 has a cleaner look to it with the nicer lights..interior..larger screen inside...the 8spd tranny is great when its running right...I have 44K miles on my 2014 and have never had any transmission issues(v6)

nothing wrong with the 2012's but the 2014's look much nicer in my opinion..worth the money

***also as a side note I have been running a RIPP supercharger now for about 10K miles...so I rip through the gears pretty quickly...0-60 in 4.6sec .....I love my 8spd***

Agreed...they do look alot better. But looking like an extra 5K for a 2014 or newer with close but not all of the same features.

These Jeeps hold their value well right? Kinda thinking on buying the cheaper older model now and trading up once warranty is down. I hear 2016s are suppose to look better and have some improvements.

I don't think there's any changes to either the 16' or 17's except for some updates to uconnect and the 75th anniversary trim for the 16'

If you check around this board, you'll find that the V-6 Grand Cherokee models don't deliver much better mileage than the 5.7 HEMI V-8's do. Just a couple of MPG more, if that. With gas dropping in price all but daily, it makes even less sense to go with the V-6.

Add in the fact the V-8, ZF 8-Speed transmission is by far the more dependable transmission, and the V-8 becomes increasingly appealing. You don't want to risk buying into problems in an attempt to save a few pennies on gas. Also, you'll love the performance of the V-8. For me it was worth every cent.

Re: Looking to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee..

I'm perfectly happy with my 3.6L and its fuel economy. I have a hard time believing some of the 5.7L mileage claims made out here. Sounds like some padding or it's all downhill with a tailwind.
