Hey hoss why dont you use the internet and research modern V8 design! Ooops no mention of Chrysler 5.7l. How has Chrysler done at 24 hours of Daytona with the 5.7? Good news I read on the internet Chrysler is finally ditching the cast iron block. Gee maybe it will ditch its late 50's twin plug technology too.

Nice to something besides crossovers and X5 wannabes from Ford and others. That means someone has been doing some market research and found folks still need and want a vehicle that can go off road. Ford obviously found out that when they came out with the current Explorer it left a hole in their vehicle line and that folks still want vehicles that can go off road.

Not surprising given it's on the same platform based on an article I read. (The video seems to refer to the Ranger/Explorer platform, but...) We should know more once the Detroit auto show kicks off.

Re: Looks like ford is targeting jeep?

I have no idea why that car magazines are running with the fact that this is a new concept.

This concept was released in 2004 -- ten years ago!!!.

Here are two references to its orginal debut: 2004 Ford Bronco Concept

Re: Looks like ford is targeting jeep?

Has some styling from the old classic Bronco (modernized of course). Two door looks good...four door looks like a Hummer to me.

Wonder if this is in the design pipeline in order to go after Cherokee or Grand Cherokee? It's no secret that the Grand Cherokee, along with Ram pickup, is responsible for current Chrysler profitability...GC is said to be Chrysler's most profitable vehicle.

Never thumped for Explorer little boy. Read what I said. Interesting that Chrysler when it can scrounge up and R&D money from Fiat is developing a turbo Pentastar to compete with the Ecoboost. Maybe one day Chrysler/Jeep will use this engine at Sebring, the Glen and Daytona.

Re: Looks like ford is targeting jeep?

My little brother had a '65 Bronco (the original design) and I had a '78 one (the U-150). Both of those were very tough and very good off-road vehicles that we used hard. We used to meet at some land he owned in West Virginia to hunt and it was only reachable with a 4x4. More than once, we had to assist other 4x4's in getting in there. He also used his to make money plowing snow in the winter while attending college. The only complaint I had about mine was that with the 351 engine and a manual tranny, it only got about 12 mpg (15 if you were going downhill with a strong tailwind). The 35 gallon tank mitigated that except when you filled up.

Re: Looks like ford is targeting jeep?

It's kinda like an FJ cruiser/hummer/old wagoneer mix. Kinda retro looking- not the fugliest truck I've seen. Could you imagine a 4.5 L diesel powering an SUV?

I'm sure it'll be more refined and less boxy. I'm actually quite impressed with the Ford Ecoboost engines. If Jeep doesn't get their crap together with these latest screw-ups and mega-delays and if FIAT screws up the design of the upcoming Jeeps you may be talking to a future Ford owner.

I'm going with Wrangler/FJ/Hummer love child. It looks like a box of plastic to me.

Re: Looks like ford is targeting jeep?

I drive a Jeep and have for the past 30 years. My experience with the 5.7 is that it does everything I ask of it, and it is bullet proof. Never had to fix one, never left me stranded. I have to deal with snow and mud, and I go hunting and fishing in the mountains off some pretty ugly trails. The Jeep 5.7 does everything I want, and more.

I really don't give a $hit how Jeep does at Daytona, or the Glen, or Sebring. In fact if I ever saw them trying to compete there I'd probably start looking for something else. I have a great dealer that has no idea what latte is and would never serve it in the waiting room. I'm a Jeep guy, I'm gonna be polite and just leave it at that.

why anyone would mention Sebring when talking about an SUV is completely beyond me.

And oh yeah, I've had turbos. No thanks.
