Yes knee bag protection went off and did its job. All I have is bruises on my elbow from F250 hitting me on my drivers door. We were very lucky ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1473688362.331307.jpg

You're seeing it correctly. The front windows on Mopar vehicles are now laminated safety glass (like the windshield) instead of tempered glass like it used to be. This prevents you from being showered in little popcorn size bits of glass in a crash like you used to be. The down side is that it makes it much harder to extract a trapped driver. First responders some times have to go through a rear window to gain entry now.

I'm sure it seemed, and felt, like he was flying, so don't take this to be that I think you're exaggerating. It all happens very fast, and in that moment it probably appeared that he was moving much faster than he actually was. That said, I'd estimate that he wasn't going very fast. To give an estimate based on the amount of crush on the side of the Jeep, I'd say no more than the posted 25. Keep in mind all the damage to the front of the Jeep is from your speed into the pole, not from the truck into you.
There are calculations that can be done to determine a speed, but a rough number with the limited details I'd estimate 15-20. That's not an off the cuff number, it's based on years of training/experience, though admittedly it's a very rough number without any measurements or views of the truck.

I don't doubt your right. The impact was unbelievable though. Just didn't see him coming which is probably a good thing didn't have time to tense up.

All I'm going to remind you of is the general reaction people have to slam on the brakes impending a collision. I could be going 45MPH, and even though I am very close to the object I'm going to collide with, I will impact it at a much slower speed because of the last ditch effort to stop.

Regardless of the exact speed, that's still a lot of mass t-boning that JGC and the level of protection did its job impressively.

Wow you took a bad hit. Usually with a accident like that it causes neck injuries or worse. Sure happy to hear everyone is okay! Jeep does look like a total loss.

Please keep us updated!

Glad to hear you are both relatively speaking, okay. I, too, had an accident this weekend. Driving home in the rain on Friday on the Indiana Toll Road, I hydroplaned, spun, and hit the concrete median barrier. No airbag deployment but the headrests did and saved me from serious whiplash. Left side of my neck is very mildly sore but no pain. While the impact was hard and abrupt, I must say, I've felt worse hits playing backyard football. Had my wheel not bent, I would have driven it home. I am somewhat disappointed in the traction control but I also understand I should have slowed down to under the limit. Still, not the first time I have hydroplaned but the first time at highway speed. Be safe my friends...slow down in inclement weather. ah, I asked just wondering how you looked to traffic behind you...you probably freaked a couple out with them seeing your spinning headlights...just being macabre...again, glad nothing real bad happened. Your Jeep tho, ouch, rear diff, shafts, wheels, gas tank, suspension, body....

Glad your ok. Those Goodyear Fortera's are bad in the rain. I had an appointment for for next Saturday to get some Michelin premier ltx's before my accident with only 6k on my jeep.
