Loud bangin in Off Road II - 2014 GC

Hi all. I did a quicc search and didn't see anything on this, so hope it's not a problem. Anyway, I have a 2014 GC Overland with the ORA package. The ride in this Jeep is fantastic in normal conditions. It rides very nice. However, for the first time I was able to take the jeep down some really rough, rocky roads. When I put the vehicle intor OR1 or OR2, the Jeep did fine, but the every bump there was a really loud banging sound. I don't know a thing about these air suspension systems. Is this normal? The closest I could describe it...years ago, my wife had a van I rarely drove. Got in it one day and it banged like crazy. Turns out the rear struts were completely shot and she just thought the rear seat was unlatched! The Jeep sound may not have been quite that bad, but it was disturbing. When I got it back on paved road, it still rides just as nice as ever. Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks!

I have read other posts on here mentioning the same thing and have had it happen once. From everything I can find this is normal suspension noise when the quadra lift suspension reaches its travel limit.

My understanding is that the Off-road 2 setting pushes the suspension to its downward travel limit and is only intended for use for navigating over obstacles. The Off-road 1 setting is the "normal" higher clearance off-road mode and still allows for additional downward suspension travel.

Normal. You have very limited travel available at the highest ride setting...which is why there is a severe speed restriction on it, too.

Thanks everyone. This sets my mind at ease. I was going very slow, but maybe not slow enough. On these really rough roads, is the idea to go so slow that it doesn't bang at all...or is some banging expected? I'm not sure I could have kept it from banging some.

The banging isn't harmful. You're just hitting the suspension stops on rebound because you're near the max for downward suspension travel. When the suspension compresses, then rebounds, it overshoots (normal) and bangs against the bottom stop.

I had the same thing happen to me while in 4 wheel drive and OR2. Seemed the shocks were bottoming out even though I was going maybe 10MPH. The book says 20MPH is max when in OR2
I will mention this to the tech when I get my first oil change.

I dont know. Maybe bump stops/etc, but I have driven a 14 Overland off road many hours/few miles in the off road lifted settings. Most recently last week. The only bangs i heard were from rocks. I would get it on a rack and check for stressed/cracked metal and maybe get to a dealer for checkout.

Re: Loud bangin in Off Road II - 2014 GC

I think the bang in OR2 is the suspension topping out, not bottoming. At OR2 you are pretty close to its upper limits.
