Magnesium Chloride and Polished Wheels

Howdy from Colorado. First post other than a tracking request to Milous.

Got a new Overland on order with the off-road package option which includes the 18" polished aluminum wheels.

Colorado uses magnesium chloride on the roads during the winter. I'm wondering if the polished aluminum wheels will be more susceptible to damage from the MgCl2 than a painted wheel.

Any ideas on how best to protect them other than regular washing? Wax or some other product?

Thanks!

Re: Magnesium Chloride and Polished Wheels

You guys with the polished rims might want to consider a product called Zoop Seal. Better than any wax product on chrome or polished metal. You can buy it through Summitracing.com. It seals the polish and lasts and incredibly long time.

Re: Magnesium Chloride and Polished Wheels

The polished wheels come clear coated from the factory so you can apply any synthetic sealer or carnuba wax based product.

Do not use any product that is designed to polish open porous aluminum as that WILL scratch and abrade the clear coat.

Re: Magnesium Chloride and Polished Wheels

I read Zoop Seal is no more, so they say:

http://www.louisvillemustangs.com/ti...now-there.html

Then he recommends this:

http://www.shineseal.com/

True Forged Wheels may have a say in this also. I would check with them.

Thanks for the great info! I think I'll try the Poorboy's Wheel sealant.

Re: Magnesium Chloride and Polished Wheels

i did 5 coats in october; you'll see, you cannot even leave a finger print/
make sure they are clean first.

you can also get it off the tires with some bleche-white/
