Re: Man am I glad I ordered the Hemi!

I traded in my 2010 Limited JGC 4x4 with Hemi on an Overland V6 4x4. No regrets whatsoever. I live in a flat coastal area and will not tow anything, so this may effect my opinion, but I am very impressed with the V6. The Jeep with the Hemi always felt too "heavy" for me. The V6 feels just right for this vehicle. I think whatever engine we have is purely relative to the needs of the individual driver (and the "wants" too, LOL).

I dont tow, I dont offroad, I dont live anywhere near mountains, I dont haul cargo or 5 people every drive, therefor I GOT THE HEMI :-) because it sounds cool, because its powerful, because I like the dual exhaust look, and because its bad ass Can anyone argue this? thats what I thought!

Can't argue that. I just don't need the cool factor anymore at my stage in life. I know you'll have a great time with your hemi, I just don't miss the one I traded in last week.

I tow, I don't offroad (yet), I don't live near the mountains but I do try and travel there a couple times a year, I don't haul cargo, I don't carry 5 people every drive so therefor I GOT THE HEMI

For me the 360 HP is low, I'd like more and will probably be kicking myself when the SRT comes out but hey, I didn't want to wait. I can always take it in the shorts and trade this one in on a 2013 SRT, I've made dumber moves in the past. Oh, and I'm 53 so I doubt I'm going to ever get to a "stage in my life" where adequate is enough......

But, if you're happy with the V6 then THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS. What I think or what anyone on an Internet Forum thinks is irrelevant.

BTW, (direct from the mouth of my dealership's owner) Jeep figured the V6/V8 split would be 60/40, as well as 60/40 for 2WD vs. 4WD, it turns out it's been exactly the opposite on both counts. That's why there have been so many delays in production.

Interesting. I remember reading about the expectation of a 60/40 split of V-6 to V-8, as well as the actual take rate on the Hemi being higher, but I didn't think it was so high as to be a reversal. I guess a lot of people are deciding that the extra mileage of the Pentastar isn't as attractive as an extra hundred pound feet of torque. As for the 4x4 vs. 4x2, I'm surprised they were expecting so many RWD only ones.

I'm pleased with my Pentastar, but I can certainly understand the appeal of the Hemi (even if I didn't notice any difference on my drive).

Re: Man am I glad I ordered the Hemi!

I always get a chuckle from this thread with the big bad hemi owners.... truth is the v6 and v8 are within less then a second of each other in both 0-60 and 1/4 mile times - big deal

That extra torque gives what can be referred to as "a positive surfeit of adequacy."

You don't have to piss all over the V-6 in order to justify your purchase of the Hemi. You wanted it, you preferred it, that's enough. Others felt little to no difference on the test drives.
I have the Hemi but the 3.6 if ifne. The old 3.7 was for $*%@ in a car over 2 tons. If you dont want to tow or dont think you need that burst of speed (it is fun) then get a 3.6.

BTW - I get better gas mileage on the hwy in my Hemi WK2 than I did with my 2007 Dodge Nitro with the 3.7.

Re: Man am I glad I ordered the Hemi!

We bought the jeep for my wife, as we are expecting a little tike in July. We don't tow, we don't haul 5 people, we make numerous 500+ mile road trips every year, we don't offroad, but we got the hemi and 4x4. Why? In the event my wife needs to get the H$LL out of someones way, SHE CAN!

Well I have driven both and it certainly was a big enough deal to me. A second doesnt sound like a lot but performance wise in a car that is a big jump. I just enjoy the fun factor of the bigger engine. Same reason I sold my regular C6 vette and got the Z06.

Re: Man am I glad I ordered the Hemi!

In Australia fuel has been over the often spoken about "US$5-00/gallon" for many years, and although there has been some slow up of V8 sales, people who want a V8 will still buy a V8

The torquey loping nature of a V8 is only approached (some say bettered) by a nice turbo diesel, but the diesel cannot hope to ALSO be a sporty engine when revved like the V8.

So, even though our gas prices are closer to UD$7-00/gallon, I still choose the V8, even if only for it's utter contempt for hills, even when towing heavy loads

Not kicking out of top gear over this bridge with 4,400lbs on the back never ceases to amaze me

Hemi power
(although, if it's any good, the new diesel could be in my future! LOL - make of that what you will )

Re: Man am I glad I ordered the Hemi!

I rented one for a week while I was on vacation in Florida. I was very impressed with the Pentastar V6. I tested fuel mileage while driving like a civilized person, I tested off the line performance. I hit it to see how it would perform at high speeds when wanting to pass someone.
I can say that the V6 at 290 ponies has enough snot to do what you need it to do.
Yes, the V8 has more grunt, but this is an SUV and I'm not getting one to win races or to drive like i'm in a sports car. The V6 will perform perfect as a daily ride to do what you need to do with it.
If I wanna go fast, I got a yellow 500 pony Italian, after that I enjoy a nice easy drive.
