I checked it by going into manual mode. You can test it yourself. What gear gives you 3300 rpm at 68mph?

Re: Man am I glad I ordered the Hemi!

I totally agree with you on that one Techno. I have owned an 05 limited with a hemi and it was great, but in my situation the v6 in the 06 laredo i am getting ready to buy is better suited for what I need. And that little fact that the hemi eats gas like a fat kid at a buffet line. So in the end I think it just comes down to your situation, but in your case canto the hemi sounds like it would be better for ya.

I've yet to figure out what's so threatening about people being happy with the V-6 that there's people with the Hemi constantly making such comments. It's almost like you're continually trying to justify the thing to yourself.

There are indeed uses for which the Hemi is a better choice. But there are quite a few people who DID drive both and decided the extra cost, increased fuel consumption, and higher fuel grade requirement were not justified based on their perception of the performance difference.
I have a history of buying the "bigger engine" in just about every vehicle I've owned. But now I appreciate the smaller engines in some vehicles, especially if the smaller engine isn't underpowered for the vehicle. I have a G37 as a "fun car" and it came with a 330 HP V6. My next "fun car" will most likely be an Audi A5 with the 2.0T engine. I've driven the A5 with that engine a few times and it is perfectly suited to the car, despite being down on power compared to my current car. Point is that I can like a car without having to have the "big" engine. If I end up buying a WK2, I'll consider both engines before making a decision either way.

That's a bit of an overstatement. Based on EPA numbers the difference is ~15% and many people, including some local friends of mine, report getting ~20MPG out of the WK2 Hemi on the highway here @ sea level in the flatlands.

Interesting how engine size becomes class warfare. I'm betting there aren't a lot of potential SRT owners posting in this thread

BTW, I NEED the Hemi to get the 7200 lb tow rating. That's my story and I'm sticking to it

Re: Man am I glad I ordered the Hemi!

Today, I did a flatter commute to work, and the V6 didn't bother me as much. But, I never had to accelerate hard to merge or anything either. I can see how people who live at sea level could be happy with it. I think if you are used to having more acceleration, live at high altitude, don't like constant shifting, or will tow, the V8 is the way to go. I'm going to watch my average mpg carefully, and will be able to compare the two engines on identical commutes. FYI, the rental has roughly 7,300 miles.

Based on my calculations it is improbable it was in 3rd gear. However, some of the numbers I used in the calculation might be wrong, in the end I am not an expert in engines or transmissiosn. My experience with manual transmissions was that it was imposible to go over 50mph in 3rd gear ... it is probable that it was downshifting to 4th gear to get more power... see my calculations below:

W5A580 Ratio
3.59
2.19
1.41
1.00
0.83

It is possible to determine a car’s speed from the engine speed by multiplying the circumference of the tire by the engine speed and dividing by the combined gear ratio.
80'x3300/1.41 * 3.43?differential ratio? = ~50 miles per hour

Gear Speed per 1000 RPM
1st gear 7.7 mph (12.4 km/h)
2nd gear 11.0 mph (17.7 km/h)
3rd gear 15.9 mph (25.6 km/h)
4th gear 22.7 mph (36.5 km/h)
5th gear 27.1 mph (43.6 km/h)

No offense, but it is more likely that your calculations are off, than it is that I can't tell the difference between a giant number 3 and a giant number 4 on the EVIC....

I'm sure someone will test it on their drive home tonight....

I understand you, in Europe a gallon of gas is almost $6. 17L only in the city driving when we had the first snow and you can barely move. I usualy get average between 13 and 15, I always check when I fill the tank. I find that EVIC is acurate (I reset it every time I fill the tank and I calculate as well by dividing how much gas I need to fill and how many km I had). Anyway, JGC is a great car and I like it very much.

No offence taken, I believe you that you have seen 3 on EVIC and no offence that I dispute this... however EVIC might be wrong ... or something else is wrong... I repeat myself, I drove manual cars for 10 years and I was not able to exceed 50 mph in 3rd gear, the engine will be extremely loud ... also the calculation shows this unless some of the numbers used are wrong.

Really? Wow.... Back in the day I had a 5.0L Mustang with a 5-speed manual transmission and the 2.73 rear axle ratio. I could almost hit 85 MPH in 2nd gear.

I can't think of many manual transmission cars that won't hit more than 50 MPH in 3rd gear.
