Mastershield Rust proofing / undercoating through dealer?

Hi all,

Working out final details on a sale and I've been presented with a mastershield rust proof / undercoat option through the dealer.

Anyone know any information on these products and whether its worth going with? Price isn't too bad but not sure how it compares to Krown etc.

Thanks again

Isn't the truck already warranted for a number of years against rust? You going to keep it forever?

Congrats on your new Jeep! I live in Quebec, which is pretty much salt galore on a regular basis...never have I treated any of my cars to any aftermarket coating or dealer offerings...During winter, I just make sure that I rinse off as much as I can on a regular basis.... So, my point of view on rust treatment on new cars, is not worth it...some will disagree, but to all their own views...You'll find many threads on the subject if you search this forum...

Agreed.
Just get it washed regularly during the winter/salt months, preferably with the underbody spray/wash.

The aftermarket 'rustproofing' packages are a big profit margin for the dealer and usually end up just plugging up the required drain holes thereby causing more problems (usually because the person spraying it on has never had formal training).

Oh, and I live in the Twin Cities. Most definitely a major source of salt during the winter. My wife's RAV4 is now 7 years old and no hint of rust (beyond the normal surface rust on suspension components). We try to wash our vehicles 1 every week or two depending on the temps.

Re: Mastershield Rust proofing / undercoating through dealer?

On my 02, I always gave it a very thorough waxing late in the fall and then didn't wash it again until spring. Not even a spray off. Always amazed me how the paint still shined like a new penny when it got it's first wash in the spring. Never had any problems with rust and I had no rust proofing of any kind applied.

I'm doing the same with my 14. LOL... you should see what it looks like right now.

Same here. Hand wash only with hot water I'll be doing. Underbody would be the main concern in Winter it seems.

Are there underbody only washes? Don't want anything touching the body of the jeep its been so long since I've been in an auto or touchless wash.

That would be my choice, too. BTW, I hope you have Dom's plate installed if you're planning to have high pressure water sprayed on the underbody of an EcoDiesel.

I go to the manual spray wash and shoot it under there with the Jeep in OR2.

Yes - dealer to install.
