MaxCare rental care fees

Just curious what, if anything, people are paying for a rental car with MaxCare? It is supposed to cover up to $35/day. My two closest dealers charge $5/day with the MaxCare plan. One dealer told me it was just $5/day. The other service manager said the rental department rates are a few dollars more than $35, but he eats the difference. However they charge an additional $5/day "Homeland Security" fee. Net result is the same $5/day for both dealers. I am in northern NJ where an economy car from Enterprise would normally cost between $30 and $40 per day.

I have used the maxcare rentals at least a dozen times and I have never paid a dime. The cars are at the dealer and I just say I want one and the dealer types it into the computer and the rental agent that is on site at the dealer hands me the keys to a vehicle sitting out front. I always thought that $35 a day stuff never had much meaning because I could never rent a grand Cherokee or ram crew cab or vehicles like that I have been given for 35 a day if you walk into a rental place off the street. My experience with it is the program behaves more like a loaner program even though technically its a rental. Im sure that's one of those things that can be different based on your dealer.

Re: MaxCare rental care fees

I get a rental every time I drop mine off at the dealer. Oil changes, repairs, doesn't matter. Never paid a dime. I've gotten everything from a Fiat 500 (Last car they had, it was absolute crap. Felt like I was driving a go-kart and I went looking for the rope to crank it) up to a Ram 1500 crew cab that I had for about 2 weeks when mine was in the body shop. Let me tell you, after I had that Ram...I seriously considered trading my GC in for a Laramie. It was NICE.

Re: MaxCare rental care fees

My dealer group has their own rental organization and they "try" to get LDW from MaxCare renters by insinuating that their personal insurance doesn't cover it. I always bring the declarations page from my policy that states in big, bold 18 point type that rental cars are covered to get around this. Since the rental operation is independent of my dealer's excellent service department, I don't hold this issue against the service department, but have, um..."spoke my mind" quite clearly to the rental folks... ...you know, "little stick figures to indicate motion" and all that...

Same here. I get a rental with very service. My dealer has an Enterprise next door. The dealer sends me over with a voucher and they put me in whatever Chrysler branded car they have. It's extremely convenient. Usually it's a 200, or smaller Jeep but last time I got a Hemi 4wd Ram. I agree it was nice but this thing was fairly loaded and didn't even have a back up cam for a 2016 model.

Sure makes me miss the Grand Cherokee when I'm driving a Patriot or Cherokee.

It's suppose to be $35 per day. I had to used Maxcare rental last week and got a 2015 JGC Limited. The enterprise rental paperwork said the rate was "$45/per day" but the dealership took care of it. I did pay enterprise for the extra insurance (I know, dumb) but I didn't want to take any chances.

I got a Compass one time, I was very "Eh" on it. It's a pretty healthy difference, coming from the GC. The 200's aren't too bad. The Fiat 500 was the worst. I've driven bigger go-karts, was fully expecting to see "Briggs & Stratton" on the engine when I popped the hood, and to need to yank on the rope a few times to crank it. I honestly don't understand how anyone buys them.

Re: MaxCare rental care fees

My dealer uses the local Enterprise rental lot, Enterprise direct bills the dealer, I never pay anything.

I don't know why anyone would ever want anything with the Fiat name on it at all.

Miserable brand of vehicle.

Are you aware that your Jeep is made by FCA?

Re: MaxCare rental care fees

Can you buy Maxcare through the dealer after you buy the vehicle or does it have to be when purchased? I think I may bite on this for piece of mind but its really adding a lot to the price that i was not expecting.

For example, do they have a limit of time in which you can buy it? Say 6 or 12 months after you purchase the vehicle, then afterwards its not an option?
