Wink Maxcare Update

Hey guys, long time no see. I just wanted to drop in an give an update on the Maxcare warranty.

I have a very early build Wk2, August of 2010 to be exact. My 3/36 ran out on Oct. 20, 2013, just a few months back.

It has 38k miles on it and honestly has been an amazing vehicle for me, one of my favorites in a very long list.

When I bought it, I opted for a Chrysler "Maxcare" Lifetime warranty, of which there has been much discussion on this forum. It ran me 1800 at the time, which I thought was very reasonable for unlimited mileage.

A couple of days ago I found my power steering fluid reservoir slightly below MIN, so I was on the net doing some research into which fliud I needed to top it off when I came across a thread on this forum mentioning a TSB for early build 2011's that need their rack and pinion system replaced. I slid under the the vehicle to check the bellows and sure enough, one of them is clearly wet with fluid.

I took it down to the dealer, paid my 100 deductible and got steering rack that runs 667 installed with several hours of labor, right around a grand. So I am now into the warranty only 800 with a long life still ahead of it, my guess would be I end up getting at least double value if not more out of this thing before its all said and done, as I intend to keep it a very long time.

Isn't it funny how crap loves to break JUST outside of your warranty? Well I got the last laugh this time, lol.

Cheers and hope you've all been well,
NB

I don't know the details of this TSB but if it is truly a TSB, isn't the cost usually covered by manufacturers? If yes, should save he $100 deductible too. Don't get me wrong, if you're keeping the jeep a very long time, lifetime warranty is not a bad idea.

No, A TSB isn't a recall, and when performed outside of normal warranty is something you have to pay for.

No, a TSB is just a repair procedure to help the dealer fix issues they may frequently encounter. the dealer does not have an obligation to pay for a TSB fix if you are out of warranty.

I see. Thanks for the explanation. Just seems odd to me that the steering rack would fail in less than 40k miles under normal use (I assume) enough times that a TSB is issued for the early builds, jeep should cover the cost. Anyway, glad everything worked out for you.

Re: Maxcare Update

In case any '11 owners are wondering, here's what you are looking for, very easy to spot under the front end. I was pretty impressed my HTC One pulled of this shot crammed underneath the engine, lol.

Within your 3/36 warranty any TSB is covered beyond that you are on your own except for powertrain which is 5/100. That is why that lifetime warranty is a bargain IF you keep your jeep a long time. busted steering rack busted Quadra lift busted uconnect busted ac compressors those and similar you could easily be into many thousands of dollars later in the jeeps life. of course any recall item is always covered but those are usually few

Re: Maxcare Update

I was looking over my paperwork today and was surprised to see quantity 2 of item Mopar transmission fluid along with the steering rack unit. I know Mopar makes a Power steering fluid so what the hell, but then I checked my manual for the PS fluid spec which says:

MOPAR Power Steering Fluid +4, MOPAR ATF+4 Automatic Transmission
Fluid or equivalent licensed ATF+4 product.

Interesting.

Cheers,
NB
