Maximum Steel Metallic owners question

So those of us that have Max Steel paint, what color do you tell people it is when they ask? It's a very chameleonish color for sure. Sometimes it's black, sometimes it's dark granite grey, sometimes it's deep navy blue. I literally can look at it, turn my head and look again and it's changed when I'm outside. While it's in the garage under 5k LED lights it looks very very blue. I find it hard to describe to people when they ask and certainly won't know what to tell the license branch when they ask (they only use basic color names when they title). Surely you other Max Steel owners have gone through this?

I usually tell people the dark colored Jeep. I also say sometimes dark grayish bluish Jeep as well. It is hard to figure out what to say so i usually spend a while telling them it could be 3 different colors depending on the time of day and the weather. I love the color which is why I choose it and most of the Grand Cherokees i saw on the road when I got mine were basic white, black, red or gold so I wanted to try to stand out more.

Also when I leased mine the state of Florida thinks the color is considered silver. When I brought it up to the F&I guy he said thats what they classify it as. So I wonder what will happen if we get pulled over in our "silver" Jeeps? :roll eyes:

I love the color as well. Definitely keeps it interesting with how it seems to change.

I can't believe the Florida BMV calls it "silver" though. That seems like your asking for trouble when law enforcement does a plate check. I don't know if Florida has the auto plate readers on the police cars but here in Indiana there are a few around. Seems like that would be a red flag as it's obviously not silver. Maybe they already understand that it's a general color assignment so it's not an issue.

Re: Maximum Steel Metallic owners question

For a number of years after the international (17 digit) vin was introduced, the Florida computers could only handle 15. Since they chose to drop the last two digits there was no real proof of ownership. I don't think color is as big an issue.

Re: Maximum Steel Metallic owners question

I have the same issue, just imagine if its difficult in english what its like for me to try to translate max steel to spanish !!..almost impossible.

When asked the color of my jeep I tell them its a dark blue/grey color, when in the sun it really sparkles and I like it a lot, when in the shadow it turns into dark gray.

Rgds.

I just call it "pretty". Using my girl card. : )

But seriously it is a blue gray. I even see a hint of purple in certain light up close. To use one color ranking... It is blue.

Re: Maximum Steel Metallic owners question

I usually tell people it's Dark Blue. The DMV in Vt also labels my new Jeep silver. Which is even more confusing because my old Jeep was silver.

Re: Maximum Steel Metallic owners question

Since the people you are discussing the color with are probably looking at the Jeep, why not just say,

Maximum Steel

If they are looking at it, you shouldn't have to tell them blue or grey, that much they can figure out.

Ha, well I haven't had to have that discussion with people that are in its presence directly.

Depends on the agency I suppose, but Miami Beach most certainly does use license plate scanners on at least some patrol cars. I got pulled over in my new 2014 as I had taken the temp "paper" plate off and put the TO BE transferred old plates from my 2011 on it BEFORE it was all processed through the agency bureaucracy so my old plate came up as "does not exist" which immediately flagged my new 2014 while driving it. The police officer quickly let me go once I said new vehicle and transferring old plate over - he didn't even want to see any paperwork.

In fact, MANY cities around here have license plate readers to recored EVERY vehicle license plate that enters and leaves the city. i kid you not.
