May need to buy another key fob 😒

I've had my JGC Overland for almost 2 weeks now. Unfortunately, the Jeep dealer (name purposely withheld!) failed to provide me a spare key fob. I've found a place (https://ikeyless.com/vehicles/Jeep/G.../2011/1004135/) that offers fobs for $100. How much should the dealership charge to cut and program a new fob?

Since he didn't provide you with a second fob, and you are paying for one yourself, he should cut and program it for nothing.

If you wind up paying for it yourself I have seen them go for less on eBay. In the $50 area.

Exclamation Re: May need to buy another key fob 😒

Be careful with buying from other sources.
I had to replace a key fod.
I bought one from ebay.
I took it to the dealer for programming and the dealer couldn't reprogram it.
Ended up buying from the dealer in the long run.

They did knock $50 off the price for me out of sympathy.

Thats my story.

Re: May need to buy another key fob 😒

'zero...they cannot be "reprogrammed". Programming the fobs is a one-time deal which is why you want a pristine new one, regardless of source, when you need a replacement or an extra.

Re: May need to buy another key fob 😒

Why would you even consider paying for one? Go back to the dealer and demand a second one. You aren't buying a vehicle that is ten years old.

No, but it's not new, so unless somewhere in the contract it clearly states it comes with two fobs, there is no requirement for then to supply two.

If it was new, demand new fob, as it is used, this one falls on the OP to buy a second fob.

What's the going rate for a new key fob (programmed) from the dealership?

Even though it is used, he purchased it from a Jeep dealer. Thus he should be given two sets of keys.

I agree 100%, but according to the sales manager, the most they can do is try and retrieve the second key from the previous owner. Otherwise I'm on the hook to buy a new one. If I'm not mistaken, CPO vehicles guarantee you 2 keys (well, atleast VW CPO does)
