I have not seen a difference in them in my use. If you are just running around the suburbs 87 is fine if you are using it under load such as towing or mountain climbing 89 is better choice.

I thought 10% ethanol was just the norm now? It has been here in the Chicago area for as long as I can remember now. Either way it cant clobber fuel economy too much since every car I have owned and used 10% ethanol in has done as advertised or better than the rated fuel economy. Would I rather not have 10% ethanol? sure, but nothing I can do about it and my cars run fine.

Oh and BTW just for grins I will be doing a 89 vs 87 test. I only have 1300 miles on my '14 Summit V8 and have only used 89 so far. Once I get enough miles on it and the fuel economy settles down I will go ahead and run some tanks of 87 and see what happens. I am a good tester because my commute and driving styles are pretty much identical all the time. I also log all my fillups on my fuely app so im not going off the slightly inaccurate evic numbers either.

Re: Me and my MPGs

My JGC is a few years older, but I average about 16 in general rural driving and get 20-22 on the highway in summer weather. The lowest I've ever gotten was about 13 and that was in cold weather in heavy stop-and-go. But I'm a very "light foot" driver, too.

I run 87...have never put a tank of 89 in it and haven't felt the need for over 52K miles so far. AFAIK, it's all been 10% ethanol..."pure" gasoline is hard to come by. I hope that changes given the naturally low emissions capability of modern engines and the diminished benefit from using the blend. IMHO, of course...science may not agree. I don't know.

Some parts of the country have ethanol free fuel. In my older cars, I lost about 10% gas mileage when the pumps in my area converted to 10% ethanol. We used to have MBTE in the gas and they switched, cost me 2 mpg in my 02 WJ and turbo Dodges.

There is a station about an hr away from me that sells ethanol free, I go there once a year to get gas for my snow blower and lawn mower.

Re: Me and my MPGs

Over the weekend headed out to the Colorado river which is about 260 miles from me.
With my hemi on the way there managed to get 23.1 mpg or so. Half way in the trip turned eco mode off.

On the way back home, again with eco off, i dropped down to 20.6 as i had to pass slower vehicles. 100 miles near home i actually went up to 21.2 ish.

Very impressed with the hemi. It was a fun drive.

Re: Me and my MPGs

The onboarding is usually high by about 10% in my experience. This is with a V6.

Ive has it as high is 27 mpg onboard, but it didn't stay there long.

I agree - on all three of my vehicles the displayed average mpg numbers are about 1-2 mpg's higher than calculating them the old fashioned way.

Re: Me and my MPGs

Trip B cumulative MPG so far in first 3450 miles, 22.6 mpg.

Evic is within .5 mpg or so. Not bad economy for a 5400 lb Hemi

Thats pretty good, but thats gotta be a lot of highway use right? I have a '14 Summit V8 and do far suburban miles with no highway and my cumulative evic shows 18.0. If I drive without fuel economy in mind I think I would be in the 16-17 range which is as advertised since it says 16 combined.

Only the last 300 miles or so contribute to the average mpg.

If you reset Trip A and drive say 300-400 miles you will see them sync up to the same value.

This is absolutely NOT true on my JGC (2/14 build). I reset the trip computer and went over 400 miles, they never did sync. This 300 mile thing is definitely not universally true.
