Re: Mid winter reviews

2014 Limited with 20" Forteras and I don't even look at the weather report anymore. This vehicle has handled two descent storms here in NY without a hitch. Plowed or unplowed, I just stay on the less traveled roads to avoid the other vehicles. I actually turned off one of the more traveled roads due to slow moving/dangerous vehicles to take less traveled side roads and still made better time.

2014 Overland with ORII and nokian studded snow tires. So far, so good. Cold, snowy, icy winter in the Western Maine mountains- no troubles driving as long as I'm careful when it is nasty. Have not had start up issues, except for remote start not working, during teens below zero.

Re: Mid winter reviews

i have 260,000 miles on my '08 patriot limited 4x4. i know, JINO...but it's nice in the snow. my wife's '14 GC Laredo 4x4 is the most capable winter vehicle i've driven, hands down. my '85 grand wagoneer was a good time, the patriot gets us home, the GC is amazing and feels safe in all conditions.

It's great in the snow. But to be honest, I feel the most comfortable in my modestly lifted 1996 Tacoma with no ABS, manual transmission, all terrain tires, and no traction control. And... The Tacoma is WAY more fun in the snow.

For a modern SUV, you really won't get better winter performance than the Jeep. Like others have mentioned, dedicated winter tires will make you unstoppable, but I haven't been stopped with the Forteras in New England.

Re: Mid winter reviews

I have an '08 H3 that is thee best snow vehicle I have ever owned (and that includes the '04 H2 I owned a while back). In fact, I just picked up the H3 in November because I regretted getting rid of my '07 H3 back in 2011 (I am in Philly and we got absolutely crushed with two massive snow storms during the '09 - '10 winter season and driving in the H3, it was as if it was 70 degrees and the sun was shining). That being said, my '14 JGC Overland (HEMI/QDII) seems to be its equal in "Snow" mode. Not sure, because I am not a car techie, but the limited slip rear seems to be a real asset in snowy weather (would love to hear other forum members comment on the value of LSD in snow). Other than the H3 feeling more "planted" so to speak and sitting higher, the JGC is just as capable from what I can tell AND the cabin is much more luxurious. So you essentially have the best of both worlds. I truly great "snow mobile" that coddles you in comfort.

MY 2014 w/20in wheels has been performing just great here in Jersey. Tons of snow so far this winter.

Re: Mid winter reviews

2014 GC Laredo with standard 4X4. We've had a few snows with ice and cold. Nothing deep yet but very poor driving conditions. The GC has been great climbing and descending slick two lane country roads and slick city streets. Always feel in control. This 4X4 is very refined (especially compared to my Ram 2500 diesel 4X4). The heated seats and steering wheel are welcome in 0 degrees. They really get hot!

Re: Mid winter reviews

Even the basic 3.6L with QTI is great. No pictures but last snow storm driving through 7-8" before the plows got out was a blast. Its just a solid feeling vehicle in the snow.

I can't get it to slide unless I fully lock up the brakes on ice, and even then I am still in control. I drove to the mountains of WV for a day (first and last time skiing out east, it was not nearly as good as Deer Valley in UT ) where the roads were covered in snow and ice and had steep grades, and the Jeep didn't bat an eye. We also got some snow in Northern VA yesterday and the Jeep has been cruising through that, even before the roads were plowed. The JGC has got to be one of, if not the best snow vehicles (stock).

Which resort did you ski at?

Granite Crystal Metallic. May not have the Jeep, but I'll still drop in and keep up with the news.
