Badass when it happens, and priced accordingly. Who knows how many makes and models will be spun off this superb platform before the dust settles. Rock on!

The chassis sharing is with the upcomming 2012 ML350.

I'd like to see a Merc dealer give an SL, CL, CLS, SLS, E class, S class as a loaner. Or a 550 in anything for that matter. Youre more likey going to get a C 300. My step dad drives a new S550 4Matic AMG and had an S500 4Matic AMG before that. They are garbage... And you're lucky to get a B class or C class as a loaner, that's after they gouge you for $4000+ on a set of brakes that take a week to get there from Germany and a 2 week wait to get it serviced. MB is overpriced, over engineered and riddled with problems.
+1

Whenever I serviced my cls 550 I got a B class as a loaner, except free coffee and some cookies I see no difference between my merc service and my jeep service. That being said the cls 550 has a problem every 3-4 months....

Re: Might as well call it a Mercedes Grand Cherokee

So this is my first post. I'm wondering if anyone can say specifically which parts of the WK2 are sourced from Mercedes/Germany. I'm concerned about potential repair costs as I consider purchase of a 2014 GC Diesel.

Also curious if anyone knows whether the next generation Grand Cherokee will be built with any Mercedes/Daimler parts or if the next platform/vehicle will be Mercedes free.

I guess the question applies to the upcoming Grand Wagoneer which I have heard will be based on the current platform much like the Durango is.

Thanks for any replies. This site is great.

Re: Might as well call it a Mercedes Grand Cherokee

Just close the doors on a new WK2, and you will hear that solid Mercedes sound.

The harder seats, and other Mercedes touches give the Grand a nice quality feel. They go down the highway with great ease, and have a really solid structure.

Basically the floor pan and suspension cradles are the basis for both. They will have individual variations, but the basic layout is the same.

Everything else is either Merc or Jeep.

We might as well call the WK2 a Mercedes Grand Cherokee.

I think it's really cool that we have so many Mercedes parts and technology in our WK2s Thoughts?

Unfortunately it doesn't share lot from MB, first it is quality in any part you touch, second engine and transmission. Transmission in this Jeep is total junk. Engine is OK but not MB direct injected new one. AC is low on cooling, plastic panels in cargo poped up after 18 month etc. Painting is much worse as well. So, no not even close to MB and I know it since this is my second car.

Re: Might as well call it a Mercedes Grand Cherokee

Italian prices:
ML 500 BlueEFFICIENCY with similar packages as HEMI Overland: around Euros 103.000
Hemi Overland: around Euros 64.000
Yes Mercedes is better but the cost is 60% more!
I think we cannot compare...
