Re: Might as well call it a Mercedes Grand Cherokee
OVer the last 10 to 15 years, Mercedes Benz is just as guilty as the rest for their "value engineering". I've owned a few MB's over the years, most notable would be the ML 350 awd I had prior to the Jeep. The plastic switches for the widows are the exact same, the tab system to hold the liners on are the exact same, the battery compartment and wiring system, same, ac control unit, same, just about the entire center gauge cluster is right out of a MB. It's the exact same, I almost wonder what MB this unit would be a direct fit for...LOL!
The new chassis is absolutely awesome. Mercedes definately gave Chrysler a much needed gift. But the Jeep is miles ahead of the 2005-2011 Mercedes Benz ML series without any doubts. The Jeep rides way nicer, has much better brakes, and brake feel. I've driven at 4 in the morning in horrible weather going through the the Smokey Mountains in both vehicles, and I will be the first to admit that I can't believe what I'm about to say, but I thought the Jeep was way more confident inspiring, was much easier to control and out performed the Mercedes Benz I drove through the same conditions, on the same road, just the year before. In a truck that cost 20-30k less! I respect Mercedes Benz. I think they as a company have done alot for the auto industry. But for the money, the Jeep is the best 4-5 passenger SUV available right now.
