Mineral Grey Overland 3MO Report

Today is the 3 month anniversary of the purchase of my Mineral Grey Overland so I thought I would post a 3mo follow up. Most of you are well aware of the challenges I had getting the Jeep that I ordered so I will not cover it here again, but just say that on Dec 17 I bailed on my original order and purchased off of a different dealer’s lot.

Vehicle Info:
Build Date – 12/10
Mileage - 2527
MPG – 13.7 mostly all city driving
Ext Color – Mineral Grey
Int Color – Black
Panoramic Sunroof
Tech Package with AAC

Modifications:
Mopar front & rear slush mats
Mopar rear cargo mat
Mopar cross bars and ski rack
Sharkfin Antenna
Illuminated Door Sills
Aluminum Sill Guards
Cold Air Intake - soon

Overall 3mo Impressions:
So far, I have to say, that I am as thrilled with my WK2 as the day that I purchased it. I hesitate to say this because I am a bit superstitious but so far I have had ZERO issues. No shutter, no overheating Quadra Lift, no leaking sunroof. So far it has just been very solid and I am crossing my fingers that continues. I extended the overall warranty of the vehicle to 5/100 to match the powertrain so that should keep me covered for many years to come. Seating inside is just great and as many here have said I personally feel the quality of the interior materials is just great. So far, 3mo in, this is the best Vehicle I have owned. The off the line torque of the V8 Hemi and overall sound of the Hemi is just awesome. Sure there are faster trucks out there but I am extremely happy with the Hemi. I am heading to the dealer this week for my first oil change and any TSB's that need to be applied.

My Wish List:
Even though I am having a great experience with my WK2 there are a few things that I would like to see. First, believe it or not, I had to come to the realization that with the V8 and the larger gas tank, my fill up is going to be more then my previous non-Hemi V8 (increasing gas prices isn’t helping). However, for me, the overall enjoyment of the V8 Hemi overshadows the increased fuel cost so I have come to the realization that it just will cost me a bit more and I am perfectly fine with that. Second, I wish some of the buttons on the center column were made out of a better material. Some of the buttons feel a bit cheap for the overall quality of the interior. Believe it or not, I wish it had more ambient lighting. Either I have gotten used to it or it is not bright enough J. I would like to see the foot wells lit which will give an overall brighter interior (yes I know this is 100% personal preference). Lastly, I wish they would come out with the update for the 430n. I like the Garmin navigation, but really want Sirius traffic as well as hopefully a fix for the B2 streaming issues. I also wish it came with HID bulbs (I get that some of this can be fixed with Mods but some if it shouldn’t have to.

Summary:
Great looks – I have gotten stopped more than I can remember by people asking to take a look
No issues – keeping my fingers crossed!!
V8 Power - J
Fuel Millage - L & J it is what it is
Enjoyment Factor – 9/10 hey it’s not a Porsche Cayenne Turbo2!
Cargo Space – great when the seat are flat, I wish it was wide enough to fit my golf clubs straight across the back
Overall Rating – 8/10

-Mashie

You might want to get the Bright Pedals to lighten up the floor well area. Your modifications are all on my list, once I get a WK2.

Re: Mineral Grey Overland 3MO Report

Nice review Mash, glad it is this so enjoyable. I've had a similar experience.

I'll PM you back on the Bwoody Velocity Intake, but in short, double thumbs up. Note a few members have theirs for sale in the JG classifieds.

You can also enhance that ambient lighting pretty easily by connecting the footwell lamps to the console ambient hot wire so they stay on while driving. You can also easily swap out those footwell bulbs for blue or green color if you so choose.

Cheers.

How do I find the correct wire to tap into? Where do I get the green ambient bulbs?

Re: Mineral Grey Overland 3MO Report

Good report!
I concur with most of it.

I would add:
1- built quality is nice but could be better (central console plastic's cheap, wood trim not very well fitted/affixed,wheel central piece's cheap, some control buttons feel cheap...)
2- i wish it had power folding mirrors
3- Hemi is indeed very peppy off the line, less so from a 50mph or so roll
4- mileage's little poor (14mpg for me but with only 600miles on the Odo)
5- cargo room's little tight i think: could be a bit wider and taller
6- 730N could use some improvement: Nav is pretty good but iPod and Media integration could be better. Sound is pretty good though.
7-EVIC not well designed: more info per screen should be displayed.
8- Looks damn good, from every angle!
Overall Rating to me: 8/10 ;-)

From the Mod Squad thread. Looks like Nacho just tapped a green led strip into the central cupholder wiring in the console and left the footwell dome lights intact.

Mod Squad

You could also rewire the footwell domes and replace with a colored LED bulb. Check out J13's bulb/LED thread.

Putco LED conversion list

yep I called out the buttons but I have no issues with the way the wood is affixed
2- i wish it had power folding mirrors
not a miss for me, I never had a car with PFM
3- Hemi is indeed very peppy off the line, less so from a 50mph or so roll
agreed, not to bad but could be better
4- mileage's little poor (14mpg for me but with only 600miles on the Odo)
yep called out above

yep, called out above

430N here but agreed with the same comments
7-EVIC not well designed: more info per screen should be displayed.
I dont have a problem with the EVIC, however I do wish it was more... flashy. I LOVE the system that the Ford Edge has with the different screens, color, lots of information etc...
8- Looks damn good, from every angle!
hell yeah!
