IF you don't mind putting up with electrical gremlins on the 2014 WK2 and be on a first name basis with your service department, then the 2014 WK2 will be the perfect vehicle for you. But when you come from a manufacturer like Lexus or BMW, you expect every feature that the vehicle has in it to operate as designed. But maybe I just got lucky owning 5 Lexus vehicles and only the one BMW in the past 15 years and everything on the vehicles worked exactly as it should.

I just wish my current 2014 Summit was as stable as my previous 2012 Overland. But that's what happens when you have a company like Chrysler who doesn't spend enough time doing proper R&D before they dump a new feature into a vehicle and take the attitude of let's see how it does out there.

Whatever you choose, good luck.

Re: Mixed Messages

I think you can have a good or bad experience with any make to be honest. I had a high end Mercedes a few years ago that was the biggest money pit piece of crap I ever owned. Yea the dealer had an espresso machine in the waiting room. So what.

Thanks to Marlon and Chevy and the rest of the good folks at JNAP I have 7500 flawless miles on my Summit and loving it more every day. Get what you want and you have 36,000 miles to figure it out. It's good old Detroit iron for me but good luck with whatever you decide.

Re: Mixed Messages

I think the first half year was a little bumpy. Still some issues. But get one built after July and you might avoid some bumps.

I would consider it, like a first year run with all the new stuff.

Wait 2 years or take a chance.

I've had a some very small bumps. Love it. If the bumps stay small I'll be fine.

I've heard worse nightmares with BMW.

Indeed. Ahem...BMW is not exactly known for stellar reliability.

I don't know how they are now, but X5s were known for less than stellar transmission reliability, especially the 4.6 models. I have two friends with X5s--one is on his second transmission, the other on his third.

Re: Mixed Messages

I think I have seen every problem there could possibly be with these Jeep Grand Cherokees, up close and personal (other people here can back me up on that).

You know what though, no fear, still the absolutely best vehicle in the class (coming from a previous Mercedes ML320 Driver) and I am anxiously awaiting mine.

btw AndoSkyy, that was Bill that was mad about the 4 clicks

Re: Mixed Messages

You know a vehicle is a piece of crap and not worth owning when you actually have to press a button to get it to do what you want it to do. Why, my radio had the gall to actually blink the other day, and it wasn't singing the song I wanted to hear when I got in.

Re: Mixed Messages

4 Clicks?? I have had my Chevy Silverado for 13 years and for the past 11-1/2 I have to keep pressing the unlock button repeatedly to get the passenger side lock to unlock. Its supposed to take 2 clicks. Sometimes its two, sometimes 4, sometimes 9. But its still a good truck. The key thing to remember is that many of the folks that have had major issues still love their new JGC

As soon as my house sells an Overland will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine....

Re: Mixed Messages

I think these vehicles are getting so computerized that more "gremlin" type issues are popping up but engine and drive train issues are few and far between.

I bought Overland few weeks ago after looking at Range Rover Sport and ML350, wow, talk about issues....check out their forums. My wife has 2012 BMW 5 series with only 14,000 and I know service advisor at dealer way to well.

I am very happy with Overland and will be getting lifetime service contract shortly. Don't worry about it, warranty will fix it. By the way I chose JGC over two mentioned above because over long haul, I think Jeep GC will hold up much MUCH better, and we keep cars a very long time.

This is my belief as well. BMW and Mercedes are OK for the first 4 years that is it!

Re: Mixed Messages

I have had some early minor issues. Very possibly due to it being a early production. Nothing that could not be taken care of. I love the Jeep! almost 12K on the clock and still in love with it. I love the ride and I am very happy with the gas mileage etc. You can't beat the bang for the buck!

Re: Mixed Messages

I have a 2014 Limited. The build date on the sheet was July 2nd. A lot of the gremlins seem to have appeared on earlier models.

I've put about 3800 miles on it so far with no problems other than occasional minor ECO mode shifting issues. These are fixed with the latest transmission firmware update which I haven't had applied yet.

I looked at the Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mitsubishi Outlander, Lexus, and a few others. The Edge sucked. My previous car was a 2003 Nissan Murano and, while I liked it, I found part cost to be around 2x the cost of domestic vehicles. Most of the other mid-sized SUVs either had three row seating, which I didn't need or want, or were much more expensive than the Jeep for the same features.

Would I buy the Jeep again? Definitely!

Would I do anything different? If I didn't have a time crunch when I was buying I would have waited for the 2014 Cherokee. It will have many of the same features as the Grand Cherokee but smaller, a little bit better fuel mileage, and a lower price.
