MODS- Jeep Grand Cherokee '14 Maximum Steele Beginning MODS! Advice needed! :)

Hey everyone! I have started to build my WK2 Jeep and wanted to see if anyone from the jeep garage had any input and help for some things I am struggling with!

Mods completed:
1. Replaced upper front Grille with T-Rex Grille- Absolutely love this- very easy to complete mod. Looking to replace the lower as well once I receive Rigid light Radiance bar I am going to put underneath the grille so that is shines through. I am also going to put the Rigid SAE Compliant Duallys in....if I can figure out how to make it work! Has anyone been able to complete this?

2. Painted lower bumper matte black....this was a long shot. It has held up pretty well but not as well as I would like. Looking to see if anyone has done this and their experience with it! I did sand it, prime, and paint and it took an entire weekend.....I live on the coast so I think the sal****er just destroys it as fast as I can fix it.

3. Sprayed back tail lights with VHT Night Shades (3 coats) Also sprayed the tail light bezels matte black.

4. Removed all badges from the vehicle with a heat gun and fishing line. Turned out very well. I sanded, primed, and painted the badge on the back of the Jeep with the same matte black spray. Still holding up perfectly. Some of the other badges on the jeep (side grand cherokee, front) did show some signs of removal but once I buffed and waxed it was completely smooth and there was no sign of original badge.

Window Tint: Additional 15% all around on top of factory tint.

Mods I want to complete:

1. Chrome window sill- changing to matte black
Has anyone completed this on their own? Looking for some help with tape size. I completed a test window but the rear windows have larger sill widths and it makes it difficult to tape unless it is cut....looking for any advice I can get here.

2. Replacing:side view mirrors- paint match, door handles - paint match, adding XO Tokyo 22s.

3. K&N Intake

4. Does anyone know of any good performance mods for the 3.6 L? I realize its not a V8 but I am dying for some sound of out this thing!

think that's it for now....well thats never it for now as all of you guys know!!!!!

Good job.

In regards to matte black window trim here is mine:

I just bought a 3M roll on Amazon, 3ft x 24"

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...rch_detailpage

I measured out the length of the bottom (straight , linear) window trim and cut the same length, + 1" for each length and width of the strip to allow slack. I would use a credit card or plastic squeegee to tuck the vinyl into the trim gap underneath.

For the curve , or 'hoffmeister kink" as the BMW world would call it, I cut out a triangular shape with a long strip at an end (measured out obviously to make sure it would cover everything). The good thing about this window trim is that they are cut off into sections from OEM.

Here is a photo of the "sectioned" part of the trim where there's a butt joint. It makes it a lot easier for us

Thanks arkitectonix. Your jeep looks great.

Thanks for the terminology...'hoffmeister kink" is a new one for me! I think your trim looks flawless. I don't see a line where you overlapped it on the left side? Only one the right? Are you taping the triangle piece down before you do the linear pieces? Sorry just trying to wrap my head around it before I start. Appreciate the link as well.

just went down in the garage and looked at the jeep and got to thinking

did you just cut out a huge triangle so that it would cover that entire back window area?

how much did you buy on amazon?

sorry for all of the questions -- thanks!

That refers to the specific shape of the bend in the window trim on BMW cars. The Jeep doesn't actually have this feature.

The Hofmeister Kink

That is correct. Coming from a BMW, I was not sure if Jeep had its own nomenclature for this particular characteristic.

Hey man, I would do the "kink" part last. Do the strips first since it's much easier and you can get better yield from your wrap roll. You can see the overlap part right when the "kink" starts go linear. Also, don't worry about the linear strip-shape to match the curve as it goes up. A thin enough strip should have enough slack to follow the curvature without any cinching at the vinyl. Also, that butt-joint was already there from OEM so it doesn't look like a half-ass job.

Ive attached an illustration of what the vinyl piece should look like (colored in red for clarity purposes). You'd want enough 'triangular' shape to cover the kink just enough so when at the top, where it starts going linear, you want to cut out the strip shape. I don't know if this is the easiest method, but it was for me, and it had the least amount of tension on the vinyl.

Also, I only bought that one roll from AMZN and it was enough for the whole trim.
