Here are the 2 youtube videos regarding the moose test for the Jeep GC. THe first video is of the previous body style. The second video is for MY14+.

Huge improvements with the advancement of the GC into the newer model years

Nice. I didn't come across the second video when I was researching the JGC. Much better performance than the 2012, and I knew the original test had testing errors.

Eggshually the Overland name comes from an old open touring car clear back to 1911.
No 4wd, throttle and spark advance on the steering wheel.

Reality is you can roll any vehicle and while the moose test has some merit, it realistically is not a routine maneuver in accident avoidance. I'd be a lot more concerned if they identified issues with a vehicle rolling, lifting, or fish tailing in a rapid single lane change.

While I think the JCG is a pretty stable vehicle, I question the four star rollover rating in the US. But, I do with all but sport SUVs like the X5, Cayenne, QX70, and comparable.

I think the tires were continental, iirc.

Re: Moose tested the jeep today

I think I want to add that I cn't see the new test for 2014, but owning a 2012, I am invested in this...

I assume they don't test cars like a yukon or pickup in their moose test. But the JGC is a unique vehicle in many respects. It is not a car, it is not a crossover, it is a Jeep. I put higher rated tires on it partly because of this test years ago (Nitto Terra grapplers). I track my sports car and feel I know a thing or two about handling. I cannot see how this vehicle is inherently "dangerous". I think the suspension in the overland with the air ride is quite good. The COG is rather low. It has wide tires and 20 inch rims. (I assume the moose test was on 18's).. All told, I think the conclusion they have that this vehicle is not to be bought is quite a stretch. I've never had to really use the limits of the vehicle, but everything I've seen in 65K points to a vehicle lightyears beyond my last (a 1997 tahoe). Real world, in USA, this WK2 is a fine and safe vehicle. JMHO.

The moose test was an Overland with 20"s, forteras I'd assume.

I know that forteras come on the overland but I do still seem to remember the 2012 test was with conti's.. It is a european car, after all.. But I guess if someone needs to know, they need to look into it themselves..

What I see is no major difference between 2012 and 2014 in handling, just the tires not blowing anymore... Whooppeee!

Re: Moose tested the jeep today

Do keep in mind that the "original Moose test" was questioned on a number of points. "There are threads about that".

A bunch of factors can affect performance for this kind of sudden maneuver, including the person sitting in the driver's seat, tire characteristics, tire inflation, cabin loading, speed, road surface, etc. Never a boring moment!

Re: Moose tested the jeep today

The conclusion I had came to after ample amounts of research on the first moose test was that they had exceeded the GCs payload rating with their equipment.

Then what you must not be seeing is the 2014 isn't on two wheels anymore lol supposedly FCA made changes to the stability control.

Yes you're right. I watched and didn't realize they were retesting the 2012, didn't click the box to see the 2014.. Sorry.

I guess I can't rely on my car's computer.. it's up to me to not drive like a spaz.

We must not be looking at the same videos, then. The 2012 had wheel lift, 2014 did not. Let's ignore the load error on the 2012 just for debate.

I was driving my 2015 yesterday at about 60 mph, not really paying attention and nearly missed my exit. Quite abruptly changed lanes and while there was tire squeal, the vehicle stayed stable and controlled. No idea if any safety systems kicked in, I was focused on making sure no cars were near me.
