bromhead is on a distinguished road
mopar or thule, ascent or atlantis

Hi
One of my few concerns about the new wk2 was the cargo space when the rear seats are up. I am going to take advantage of the current 20% off Thule/Yakima sale at REI and had some questions.

1. Due to the lock/torque bolts security issue on the Mopar racks, i was leaning towards the Thule Aero bars even though I preferred the look and lower profile of the Mopars. Comments?

2. I want to use the box for skiing and camping. My skis are 184cm long, so assuming i go with Thule, my choices are Ascent 1600 (slightly longer than the Atlantis 1600) or Atlantis 1800. Does the stronger/more rigid shell of the Atlantis make a difference? Any pictures or feedback on how the Atlantis fits on the thules. Concerned about how the back door fit when open, its mounted too forward... Feedback on the Ascent boxes? I know it will fit, just curious about the build, etc.

FYI, i did searches on the site and saw some similar threads, but they were mounted on mopars...

and yes, I know I will have to take the antenae off or go shark fin....but thats a different thread!

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Re: mopar or thule, ascent or atlantis

you can move the bars around on the roof. they dont have to be set all the way "wide". I personally have them set to a very forward position on my WJ bc of the rear gate and my bike trays (kayaks, ski box, and ski rack are very long). I ski on 189s so I understand the length. I am going to do the same on the WK2 when it comes it. Go for the aero bars they lock down and it will give you a piece of mind with your gear.

One thing is that I didn't have enough room on the roof with the recommended width bars so I picked up bars that over hang a bunch. you wont hit your head unless you are really tall. this allows you to off set the box and not have to worry about the antenna. Plus you can throw something on the other side too.

Might be worth just getting everything you need and take advantage of the sale and then return it if you dont need/want it

Thanks jeep man. good idea. REI said if it doesn't fit, i can return it and they will honor the sale price for an alternate selection.
