So, without me really getting into it, I am sure you can guess what I am railing about!! Bought a WK2 from Manhattan Jeep and with that you get subsidized monthly parking for $200 a month. Felt good about that.

Let me preface this story by saying that every time I drop it off I do a little video recording of the car by walking around it and showing all the corners to make sure that if an occasion were to arise, I would have video evidence to back up my claim that it was the garage's fault and not mine. BAZING.

Picked up the car last night, and low and behold, look what we have here. FUMING at this point. Telling them, this is a brand efing new car WTF...... Then I gather my thoughts and show them that every time I drop off the car I record her condition and every time I pick it up, I check it again. So, I have the proof that while in your hands you damaged it. So, I will speak with the manager Monday morning and have him pay for the damage, bc I sure as hell ain't.. So So mad guys.....

Thanks for letting me vent, fam...

Oh and here are the pics. Not terrible, but not what I want on my new rig.

Just a shitty feeling when they don't care about our pride and joy. Although the wifey thought i was crazy for taping the car after every time I drop it off, this is a prime example of my paranoia working in my favor.

I guess there is a silver lining in this (trying hard to find one) I might have them paint the rear brow and grill the same color as the rest of the rig.

Just pissed off, but thanks for being there guys.

Man that sucks glad you video your ride, I visited NYC for a week I saw two cars get hit and the people just kept going. I would not own a nice car in that city. Glad they are going to pay, but sad the parking garage would not have done shit if you did not video the damage.Find a new garage.

It's sad what happens in parking garages. Yet there are probably more VERY expensive cars in parking garages in midtown Manhattan than anywhere else in the country.

When I was working and had to park downtown I always felt a little safer parking at One Police Plaza. I parked there a lot over the years and never a scratch.

Of course the shipping damage to our Jeeps also sucks. But as long as it gets fixed properly we can't let it ruin our lives.

Sucks man....I left my in a parking lot near the javit center auto show week and swear all the tiny door dings im now came from that day.

#11 ·
Whoa!!! They got you good on that one. There's no way someone wouldn't know that happened. That really sucks.

Do things like this happen a lot in NYC garages? What about on-street parking, a lot of mishaps there too?

If I'm going into Chicago by car and not L, I'll always find a decent parking lot on SpotHero so I can avoid garage and on-street parking.

I happens a lot in any city, but especially in NYC where the a$$holes reside (clearly not me....) TBH, you run the risk anywhere you park in NY, but thats why I got the front and rear bumper guards on my rig. Also, I noticed a few scratches on my rear guard, so very happy I decided to put that on her.. NYC MAN....

Sucks to see but you are doing the right thing by walking around the Jeep every time you drop it off.

I've been parking in NYC garages every day for a long long time since I've lived in Manhattan all my life, I do the same except I have the valet walk around with me to show the car is scratch/ding free. And when I pick it up I walk around again.

Yes, I have had a couple of times with the garages scratching the car, but I always get them to pay because I cover my ass with the walk around. I get the estimate from my shop, get my check, then repair.

And to sndrsk, if you leave your car out in the street in Manhattan, it will get ****ed up. lol

Of course I won't let those mouth breathers fix my car. He will submit the claim to the office and I will (in the interim) get an estimate from my guy in NJ. I trust those guys way more than these morons who get work from the garage.

As for the walk around, I heard horror stories, so I take an extra 10 seconds to walk around the rig with my phone. I might look like a moron to some, but I feel comfortable knowing that I have that info in my hand..

Get used to it, it WILL happen again, one week after I bought my 12 WK2 my garage scratched it in the same spot as yours. Same with my 13, the only scratch on it is from the garage.Typically the city garages have a body shop that will come and do small cosmetic touch ups onsite at the garages expense but that does not take the sting away from your new ride getting damaged by a careless parking attendant. I bought my 12 from MJCD and they said nothing about parking deal, is this new?

NEVER EVER EVER let the garages body shop touch the car.

Have your own shop, get the estimate and then get it repaired once they give you the check.

That's awful. Good thing you have video to show the condition prior to them getting their hands on it. Video or not, I would have been raising hell to make them pay for the repairs.

LOL.. In all fairness, I am 6'3 225 with the look of someone who spent some time boxing with some golden gloves brothers!! He got the point once the veins in my head started to pop out a little and immediately called his manager.

I mean, I am sure I couldn't have punched the repairs out of him, so I am guessing me pulling out my phone and showing him the condition my car was in prior to them whacking it worked in my favor.

LOL.. I could always scream at them, "it ain't gunna fix itself"..

First they wanted me to take it to their garage and I was like, "ya know what, let me do some research on their place". Good ratings, but when I attempted to call them (5 days in a row to schedule a drop off), nobody ever called me back. So, I called the management office up and told them how its going to be. I will get an estimate and give it to you to send me a check bf the work is done. First he said, "let me get them to call you", then I said, "we tried that game once and that was your shot". My efing time is worth more than the repairs on this car and I have already wasted enough dealing with your mistake. Want me to invoice you for my time.... silence over the phone. So, I said FU then took it to my guy in NJ. $940 was the estimate.

Now its wait and see time. Not worried though, I have all the ammo I need, plus a vicious attorney for a wife. Sure, she is sweet as sugar with the family, but man, get her in court and she will put it in your neck faster than you know what happened.

BOOM ROASTED

Had a party at a hotel in downtown DC last year... they did valet parking and decided to park one of my co-worker's cars in those spaces with the low hanging air ducts. I think you can guess the rest (yup, scraped the crap out of the roof). They also tried to say the damage wasn't their fault, that it was already there. What a world we live in.

Hope it works out for you and they pay for the damages.

#29 ·
Oh, they will. They already put the claim into their office and once approved, I take it to the shop to get fixed.

I lived in NYC for six years, and many garages will hide behind a "not responsible for theft/damages" waiver they print on the back of tickets and/or on a small sign in or near their office. With what they charge, this should be outlawed.

Just hoping they follow through with a payment. So many ways they can still chaff your butt with delays and then offer some token partial payment to end your claim. Often they will not offer a cash settlement, but instead insist that you use their body shop. In the end, it can be prudent just to take what they give you and move on, despite being completely in the right.

If you can afford it, it's worth $25-$50 a month to the manager for a permanent parking spot that's easy for the attendants. That pretty much also insures that you never have any damage as a "manager favorite".

Yeah they wont deny shit. If I see that they did the damage there, Im not moving till you get me an incident report and if you dont want to give me that I will call the cops.

In my home garage about 5 years ago now. I had a 2007 WK Overland. It like my SRT now was my baby and it was treated like one. Always clean and never a scratch, I drop off the car, come back, and my quarter panel has yellow on it. The back of the garage has poles that the lower portion is painted yellow. They tell me that a cab hit it! LMAO

The manager doesnt want to give me the incident report. He then throws my keys at me and says you have to leave (meaning kicking me out as a monthly customer). So I took offense to the key throwing and I shoved the manager and I had to be pulled away. I then say no the car is staying here and Im going to go talk to your boss. I called up ICON's district mgr and I requested a meeting. I have the meeting the next day and the garage mgr doesnt show up like a bitch that he is and I talked to the district mgr and he said no no he meant if you want to switch garages you can. Yeah bullshit. Anyways ever since that day my jeep stays near the booth and I dont wait.

All of these mgrs who work in the garages try to be a bunch of bullies. People cant let them get away with it. So many people do and it bothers me to no end! LOL

So true. I think they specifically hire aggressive blowhards to manage these places, b/c it helps scare away problems. A friend came to visit me and put her rental car in a garage, and it came back out with a dent - not a scratch, a DENT - in the front passenger door. The manager just told her "it's a rental, the rental car company will take care of it" and got really pushy with her, and she ended up driving away scared and paying the deductible out-of-pocket.

Wow all this time I thought I was crazy. Anytime I park my '12 I walk around once and check. When I come back, I check the car again. I always put the wk2 in the garage. I live in LA and was at Cedars Sinai last week when I see an old hag park a gold Mercedes next to my car. She opens her door and rests the door on the chrome of my front passenger door. I couldn't believe it. She couldn't care less. When she got out, I checked and luckily no scratch. I look at her door and the paint is trashed on the edge of the door. It may be Laredo but she's still my baby. To the OP, glad you didn't take their crap. Great job. Too many people will try to BS you these days.

Yes, yes they will. My girl thought that i had a touch of OCD when I decided to walk around the car with the phone in video mode just taking a short of the exterior. Now, she is like, "great thinking dear". As for the garage, they didn't even deny it.

that sucks to hear it man. Some would for sure be covering that, I one time unfortunatley did a booboo to someones new Chevy Suv. To make a long story short. I worked at a GM dealership at the time. The jack i was using was crap and luckily but unlucky for me the stand went through the side lower cladding. I told my supervisor right away. Paid for the damages myself and had one overnighted to replace/installed for the customers pick up next day. I guess it all depends the honesty of people. I could have probably gotten away with what I did. No matter the grade of vehicle it is out of respect what I did and the right thing to do. No issues, no drug test, no nothing. I think my supervisor was glad what I did. LOL it sucked not having a pay check for a week.!!! But situation taken care off good luck with your situation.

Yea, they better. I mean, lets look at the facts which are indisputable; I have a video of what my car looked like when I dropped it off, I reported it to the attendant at the time of discovery at the garage, sent an email with pics to the home office the same night and they already put the claim in to the home office and it was approved. Sure it was approved to use their own repair shop, but none the less, they knew they were at fault bc they put the claim through. Either way, if they wanna play efing hardball, i got a big ol' bat.
