Does anyone know what kind of motor oil there is in the 3.6L? I just drove from Seattle to Montana and back and I'm quickly closing in on the first oil change. I would prefer to go synthetic, but wanted to ask if anyone knew what they put in from factory. My dealer had no idea.
It makes no difference if you use synthetic or mineral, as longas whatever you uses matches the specs in the owner's manual. You also can switch back and forth between the two or even use half synthetic and half mineral oil at the next change.
I highly doubt the factory fill is synthetic. I'd go with Pennzoil Platinum for your WK2. Great oil, readily available, and if you go to Wally World you can pick it up for ~$20 per 5 quart jug.
Yes. You can change between Synthetic Oil and Mineral. I did it a couple times with my WJ to make it run smoother. I tried Royal Purple and it ran very smooth. Then I just changed to Regular Mobile Clean 5000. It was Cheap and I did it every 2000-2500 miles and it ran fine also.
funny, I called the designated toll free number for GC2011 and guess what, they did not have the technical documentation at hand to tell me make, or min/syn, but they did dig up that it was 5W30, after 10 minutes. they will get back to me in 2-3 days. I know, I'm anal about oil choices. But just as I always put Mobil 1 in my fun car, I want to put the right thing in the GC.

I just came back from Walmart andI saw that they were selling 5 Quarts for $21 of Mobil 1! Once it's time for an oil change I'm doinng it myself! Last Oil Change I payed $104!
OK, so today, I got a message on my home voicemail form Jeep. The lady left a message saying that there is a "high quality synthetic oil from factory". She also claimed "mineral oil is not allowed in the car". Those were her exact words. I don't believe any of it, nor does the manual. I guess I will call tomorrow and inquire further.
it really doesnt matter what they used in it from the factory. You can use whatever Brand you want. I have used the Mobil 1 ext. performance in my Jeep from day 1 with a K&N gold filter.
And I would say when you said "mineral oil" they thought you meant real mineral oil. Of course they would tell you to not put mineral oil in a Jeep....LOL
Not to turn this into a which oil is best thread, as I run both Mobil 1 and PP. However, when I ran Mobil 1 in my 4.7 I had about 1/2 QT burn off between 3.5k changes. Since switching to Pennzoil PP, I don't lose a drop. Others have had the same experience. It depends on the engine. In my other vehicle Mobil 1 doesn't burn off.
Ive used the Mobil 1 ext performance in all my cars. I currently run it in my stroked/forged 4.7 Jeep and my wifes Lexus IS. Ive also used it in ultra high performance vehicles like a 3000GT VR4 and Dodge Stealth TT's that were over 600 hp. Ive never experienced any oil loss. That sounds more like the vehicle burning the oil than the oil just disapearing....but thats more of an opinion since Ive never owned yor vehicles. No doubt I have heard good things about the Penzoil...but Ill stick with what I have used the last 10 years with excellent results.
I finally put Pennzoil Ultra 5W30 in it today. Had to go and get the filter from the stealership (3 days delivery time). Seems to be running smooth. Too exactly 6 qts to fill it up.
Where are you guys getting mineral oil from?? Obviously cannot use that, either regular old dino oil, synthetic, or a synthetic blend. There are a number of threads discussing the benefits of each.
You all are responding to a post from 10 years ago. Probably different then what ships today. I was told it’s Pennzoil Full Synth. And it’s what the dealers are using too.
